I didn't imply anything about his motives. I couldn't (and didn't) care less why he felt that way. I was objecting to his attitude period. When I got benched after a long string of consecutive strikeouts, yeah, I wanted to cry, but I was still hanging on the fence cheering on my team every step of the way. I was still the first one out to home plate when someone hit a home run. When I didn't get the start in rugby -- or even get on the field at all -- yeah, it stung, but I was still running up and down the sidelines excited that my mates were doing well. Instead of sulking in insecurity that he might get replaced, Favre should have been rejoicing in Rodgers' success.

Maybe that's absurdly idealistic of me, but I think sports is about idealism.

Maybe that's why I never made it big. Although I did make it back to leadoff before the end of the season.[boxing]

Another nugget, this time courtesy of ESPN.com :

. . . Aaron Rodgers has the second-highest career completion percentage in NFL history, based on a minimum of 1,000 attempts. If he continues at his current pace, Rodgers will leapfrog Chad Pennington and finish the 2011 season atop this list.

[ . . . ]

According to the always-fantastic database at pro-football-reference.com, Rodgers has the third-highest average per attempt in NFL history (minimum 1,000 attempts). He is the only player among the top four on this list who played after 1960:

1. Otto Graham (8.98 YPA)
2. Sid Luckman (8.42)
3. Aaron Rodgers (8.18)
4. Norm Van Brocklin (8.16)

To be fair, this statistic was carefully cherry picked. A quick glance at the database shows that 5 of the top 10 quarterbacks on that list are still playing: Ben Roethlisberger comes in at no. 5 (8.05 ypa); Tony Romo at no. 6 (8.05 ypa); Philip Rivers at no. 7 (7.98 ypa); and Matt Schaub at no. 10 (7.87 ypa).

Donald Driver 's been reading this thread. [grin1]

"I've played with two quarterbacks," Driver said Wednesday. "One just went out there and did what he did, and he wasn't patient at all. But Aaron takes what the defense gives him, and that's the type of guy you want."

[ . . . ]

"It's amazing," Driver said. "He gets better and better. Every week he seems to be breaking another record. And sooner or later, he can't do anything but break his own. You have to take your hat off to him. If he's not the guy that's going to win MVP this year, then something's wrong."

Looks like A.J. Hawk 's been nosing around here too:

Asked if he's ever seen anyone playing as well as Rodgers, Packers ILB A.J. Hawk replied: "No. I mean, I don't think anyone has.

"I've been watching football for a long time I feel like ... (but) nah, I can't remember anything like what Aaron's doing.

"I'm sure he's heard whispers of how good he is this year. It's fun, it's great to be a part of. He's basically making history with how he's playing. ... It's crazy, awesome to see. As a guy on defense, I stand there on the sideline and watch as a fan just like everybody else."

I love the way this team seems so relaxed this year. There doesn't seem to be any pressure at all. They genuinely appear to be having fun. I've seen a lot of comparisons to the 2007 Patriots out there, with most people saying this team is just so much more likable.

Asked about the zone he's seemingly been in since last year's Super Bowl run, Rodgers shifts all credit to his coaching and talented teammates (he's also flawless in the interview category) for allowing him to flourish. However they are more than happy to heap praise on their sublime signal caller.

Haha, it is good to see that after not visiting the site for a while, things are still the same. Good times. I did not read every post in this thread but again, I do not understand why people have to bash Favre in order to say how great Aaron is, one has nothing to do with the other.

All I know is I saw someone say that Favre is the #4 QB in Packer history, really? Wow. And stop taking stats from 2011 and comparing them to stats from 1995. If you did that, you would say that Favre in 2009 is 2X better than Favre in 1995 - which is insane. It's a different era, I bet Matt Schuab has a higher QB rating than Joe Montana.

Either way, why is this stuff still going on - I used to get accused of bringing this stuff up all the time but without even me here, this still goes on. Let's just enjoy what is going on - we are 10-0! 10-0! 10-0! 10-0! And we are discussing this - why?

Rodgers has exceeded all my expectations, I actually thought last week "he's having a crappy game" and looked at this stats and they were still better than 90% of the QBs in the league. He is great, regardless of what you want to think even if you didn't even watch Favre back then, Favre was great too. Why does one have to be better than the other.

No one is bashing Brett Favre and in fact it was posted that Favre had better numbers. Read before you judge.

You think Favre ever had a rating like that?
Favre may have "carried" some Packers teams during his time, but Aaron totally carried that game. They won because of his dominance.

NO interceptions! You think Favre could've done that?

We might have had one or two more championships if he hadn't fucked up so spectacularly in the playoffs.

Favre is really at most the 4th best QB in Packer history. He didn't play better, but he played longer.

Rodgers is more accurate, more mobile, more disciplined and works harder off the field.

That's just from the first two pages and look at the title of the thread. Why does it have to be that way, why can't people just say "Rodgers is awesome", without the "Rodgers is awesome... so much better than Favre". Who's gives a F, we're 10-0. And yes I am not watching the game right now because I am at work and I don't understand why games are at 12:30pm, some people still have to work! Watching the stupid ESPN Gamecast because I can't even stream at work.
