Nelson's first TD :
#1 read was Monty running an out 1 yard in front of sticks covered by LB was wide open; Rodgers looked, had throwing lane even though one was not required and pumped and 100% inexplicably did not throw the ball.
Read #1B: if CB covers Monty; Hit uncovered Adams in left corner of end zone.
Read #2: Nelson ran a curl in at GL-he was covered by other LB and DT Ngata dropping back.
Read#3a/3b Cook and Cobb ran parallel deep-curl-ins; Cook was covered Cobb was open by full step.
After not throwing to Monty, Rodgers glanced at Jordy and never got to 3rd read as rush spooked him. Folks, it was a 3 man rush. Again another well designed well coached complicated play [Like they ALL are] and only one player didn’t do his job.
At 13:04 1Q, 2nd and 5 dump off to Lacy in right flat definitely nets the first and he could have beast-moded it for a 10-15 yard gain. But Rodgers didn’t finish progressions and play-grounded it and hit Cobb for 33.
At 10:50 2nd Q, 3rd and 3. For those who say McCarthy don’t call enough slants:
Read #1, was a slant to Cobb in slot on left. Rodgers shifted Starks left to cover the blitz. He knew the blitz would come from left, this would leave the slant throw open for the first and if Cobb broke a tackle, it’s a TD. As it turned out Cobb’s defender fell and it would have been a TD. Instead Rodgers made a very difficult throw to Jordy in left corner. BTW, this throw was unpissingly believably great; It was PERFECT. And I bet Jordy catches that ball if CB Slay didn’t subtly block Jordy’s right hand from getting to the ball. But, not playing within the offense cost us 4 points.
Ideally Rodgers only goes sandlot after going through progressions or OL breaks down. McCarthy’s unstoppable offensive scheme [If executed] becomes one of the best offenses in history, when Rodgers skills at extending plays are added to and not done at the expense of the execution of the offense. Of course, if he continues to fear getting hit, it wont matter, he’s gotta go.
Haven’t gone through the 2nd half; but it seems Rodgers played within the offense on the other 15 1st half throws, so this is MAJOR improvement. But, is the Chip now off his shoulder and what happens when the chip does comes off? Going even 3 plays rogue is a disaster. It exposes Rodgers to injury, it exposes the O to turnovers and it pisses off the lockerrom, especially when Lord Rodgers’ Trust demands his receivers execute the game plan and then he doesn’t do it.
