Although I have mixed feelings about Favre, some things should be considered when saying "player A is better than player B." I am glad some others had brought up the fact that the sport has changed over the years, so a direct comparison of stats is simply not an accurate gauge. I mean really, nobody would compare stats from 1920 to 2011 because the game was different back then; so stats from 15 years ago should also be treated as such.

The methods of Favre have changed the way the game is played. He brought the excitment of big plays, and the next generation of QBs brought accuracy to the big passing plays. Point being - both bring something special to the table.

Who is better? It depends how you choose to compare them. I say Rodgers, others say Favre.

The problem is Rodgers has to overcome the Favre hype. That gives Favre and advantage. Even though he was only 6 points above average during his career when Arnie Herber, Bart Starr and Aaron Rodgers are all much farther above average than Favre was.

Favre is really at most the 4th best QB in Packer history. He didn't play better, but he played longer.

I am not talking about Favre at his peak. I am talking about his over all performance. Interceptions and playoffs included.

The big difference is, when there is a miscommunication with the receiver, Rodgers throws the ball to an unoccupied area. The receiver is usually running towards a DB. When Favre miscommunicated, the receiver was running from a DB to an unoccupied area and Favre threw it to the DB.

Rodgers is more accurate, more mobile, more disciplined and works harder off the field.

In my opinion, Favre never approached Starr in greatness. Any more than Cal Ripken approached Brooks Robinson.

Rodgers may. But I've said it before, and I'll say it again, he doesn't pass him until he has at least 3 NFL championships to his credit.

Until then, its only potential.

And, IMO, its going to be so much fun watching him get that second and third and however many he ends up with.

Kind of makes me wonder what would the Packers have gotten if he had not waited 15 year to start doing that.

There is a recent article posted on the forum about how hard Rodgers prepared even from when he started as a little kid.

Brett had no such chip, his motivation was making sure he was on the field so he wouldn't get replaced.

I would concur that Aaron works harder than Brett did in his earlier years off the field. I assure you, Brett did not wait 15 years to start studying. It has been well documented otherwise.

From Kevin Seifert's NFC North Blog on ESPN.com, on Rodgers:

....his 64-yard pass Sunday to receiver Jordy Nelson was one of the best throws I've seen him make. Rolling to his right, Rodgers didn't have time to set his feet and simply flung the ball about 55 yards in the air. Second, that pass helped elevate Rodgers' completion percentage on throws of 20 or more yards downfield to 65.2 percent this season. That's a better completion percentage than all but three NFL quarterbacks have on all of their throws. Amazing.

I've read quite a few Montana/Young comparisons in relation to our great fortune having AR follow BF as our starting QB. I'm increasingly finding myself believing that it will end up being very similar but in reverse. I think in hindsight we'll be able to say Brett Favre pulled our beloved franchise out of mediocrity (generously speaking), but Aaron Rodgers returned the Packers to Glory. Wasn't it Wolf who described the loss of Super Bowl 32 and subsequent year w/ Holmgren as a "fart in the wind"?

And ain't it grand not having to hold your breath every time AR heaves one down the field because you know he isn't throwing it up for grabs or into triple coverage? I've seen enough of that crap to last me a lifetime from 4.

Better, stronger, faster, hands down. Praise FSM for bringing us MM, TT, & AR!

Ultimately, who really should give much of a shit?

We have covered the QB position so well over the last two decades. I don't know who else can say that.

We got and continue to get lucky, lately. Those 28 years were a complete BITCH, and I have very fond memories of the Majik man and Lynn Dick-me.

(Redskins fan description of Lynn, not mine)

Lord F A V R E got a LOT of wiggle-room from the fan-base because of that drought. That is SO FORGOTTEN/ NEVER KNOWN amongst the internet generation, imo

I'm good with it- He thrilled me at that time...

Don't confuse that with some extraordinary QB play now, though...OR, go back and watch all those games and get back to me- I know what I saw.
