Did the Packer Defence really Suck?

Not according to Raji:

"The problem is when you play Drew Brees, he's going to get a few on you," said Packers defensive lineman B.J. Raji. "He made some throws and I was like, 'Jesus.' But he's a Hall of Fame quarterback who does that to a lot of defenses. Luckily we have our own Hall of Fame quarterback in the making."

So there! All of you fucking bitching bastards in game day chat!

I agree. Defense held up. Remember, we didn't have Neal. We also didn't have Tramon at the end. Brees is an all time great QB. He's gonna light it up against alot of teams. Just like Kurt Warner did in Arizona.
Now the Special Teams, they sucked. And they suck consistently, including against teams that suck.

Limited pass rush hurt. Yes Brees is Brees but if our defense is suppose to be stellar then they need to limit those opportunities. I was not impressed with Shields. He got beat several times and got dusted on the TD because he simply got beat. Happy overall, not overly impressed. The need to improve to repeat.

Great QB's make plays. Read the New Orleans paper and the people are all over their defense. Aaron Rodgers hit some passes that were well defensed.

The Patriots game last year was high scoring.

The game reminded me a lot of the record breaking Monday Night game against the Redskins on October 17, 1983 where over 90 points were scored. The defenses weren't bad, the offenses were that good.

I agree with all of you. Not only are these both extremely high-powered offenses, top 5 in the league for sure, but they didn't have any game tape to go off of and each team had two masterminds that had been scheming since February (Or January for the Saints, sorry Sean!). I knew that we both had good defenses but ultimately the offenses would prevail.

My gripe is the 3 and out that we had at the end of the 4th to give them the opportunity to win the game. Two telecasted runs and one horrible, HORRIBLE pass play. Granted, I think that the pass was off and was not supposed to twirl Kuhn around, I was as pisses as MM when it happened though. Still am. Don't pass the ball to somebody on your side of the line, we make the same mistake all the time. In a situation like that, don't test the waters in that way.

While Shields didn't provide flawless coverage, it wasn't a poor game on his part.

Personally.. it was a well designed and called game from the Saints, they put the Safeties in tight spots and forced them to commit on at least two TD's leaving the corners hung out to dry. Collins got sucked up on the touchdown on Williams.. same with the TD over Shields.

However that really isn't a "error" on the safeties part.. it is good playcalling and design on Peyton's part.. the Saints have a fine offense and they won their share of battles against the Packers D. I would not want to face the Saints on turf with that offense.. but it would put more of our speed on display.

The NFC, IMO, is going to be a very good three team race.. Saints, Falcons and Packers on offense.. should be a fun year to watch how it shakes out.

Round one to Packers.

No.

I'm sorry, but hall of fame qb or not...our defense sucked. Really hard. And I'm still pissed that our best safety took out our best cornerback for god knows how much of the rest of the season.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

IMO.. the Saints offense has that many options available and have tested many a team over the last couple years.

That said, when the Packers blitz they were successful. When you are up 2 touchdowns it is the time to blitz, not let them methodically march the ball down the field. Same shit with McCarthey - step on their fricken necks - then let the scrubs play.

Still don't like folks saying an active player is a Hall of Fame player. It's inaccurate and uncreative to say, and bah... oh well, society is ignorant.

I don't think the Packers defense sucked. I think it was the first game of the season against one of the best offenses in the league. If this happened in week 4 or later, then I'd put more thought into does the defense suck.

3)Did you expect Capers to blitz every down? Because that would almost surely have lead to more big plays by the N.O. offense. I won't deny they made a handful of really nice plays on blitzes, but the Saints also picked up the blitz on numerous occasions, leading to big gains. Now, late in the game when it was an obvious hurry up situation, blitzing can really fatigue a team if they do it every down. Not to mention whenever the Saints move the ball, those blitzers have to run back to the LOS.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

I won't use the word "sucked", yet.

But I don't see how people can say they played a "good" game, either.

1. 34 points, and half a yard away from 40.
2. What, 1 punt? (or were there 2?)

Frankly, it reminded me of a certain Monday night game way back when against Washington.

Game was a lot of fun to watch. But good as the Packers offense is, you can't expect 40 points every game.

Our defense vs a HOF QB, that could probably rip any defense up. (Steelers defense last year amazing ... AR ripped it apart)

All tho:

Sacked Brees in the red zone on a 3rd and 4 I think ... Let him to 3 points.
Stopped a 4th and 1 or 4th and 2 can't remember (in red zone) ... No Points.
Stopped a 4th and 1 last minute of the game @ the goal line ... 0 points.

I'm not to worried, 3 td's for Brees is normal.

Some things need to be tweeked of course:

Wrap your tackles, Bishop - Hawk - Woodson all missed tackles that allowed an extra first down.
Shields got beat up a couple of play.

Then again that's what an hof qb does...

I too think suck is a little strong but it definitely wasn't good. Part of that goes to NO, they are a good offense, likely one of the better one we'll face all season (outside of practice anyway).

I do think the pass rush needs to improve a lot. Too much use of the 3 man rush. When that happened Brees just had all day to throw and even with 8 dropping in coverage, somebody always came open.

It was probably the most heads up play I've seen Hawk make in his career. A game-clinching play. And it was nullified by a pissant fucking official making a fucking pissant anti-football call. I don't see any contact before the ball was knocked away.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

Defense allowed only 1 TD on 5 redzone trips by the Saints. That stat I did like. Didn't like the other 2 big score plays though. On the one Shields just flat out didn't get his jam on and there wasn't enough time for Collins to get over. The same exact play that the Steelers ran against us with Mike Williams. At that distance Capers needs to dial up something different I think.
