wpr is pissed because he can't refute anything I say. It's not my fault I'm the smartest one on this forum. I'm very good looking too.

It looked like they were playing Starks a lot as the 3rd down back, and while he had some nice catches, he sucked in pass protection. Often looking for a guy to block but totally missing and running out into the flat. 3rd down back still seems like a major concern, and John Kuhn may very well take up those duties early on in the season, as one of the only backs on the roster who can pass block. It would be great if Alex Green could develop in pass protection, as he really looks to have the skillset of a 3rd down back.

Yeah, he's better than Grant at more than just "third down pass pro." We pretty much all agree on that.

And yes, I agree, he was picked up part way through the season. Didn't recall precisely when. Fact is, he didn't go through OTAs and he didn't go through training camp with the team. Ergo, he had to learn the playbook on the fly.
Remember when Grant came aboard from the Giants? He came on a trade the night of the final cuts, so he was with the team week 1. But it took him until week 10 until he could contribute.

That is, by the way, the same Brandon Jackson that Dimitri Nance failed to even sniff beating out.

I never heard anything about Grant having trouble with the playbook like I did with Nance. My understanding was that he didn't produce much because he was the third string running back behind two young guys with hype and potential (even though very little of it was eventually realized). Nance came in as the second string halfback (Grant and Starks injured) but couldn't beat out an ineffectual Jackson and a fullback picking up the slack as best he could.

Regardless, even if Grant was slow picking up the playbook for the first half of the year as you implied, his first season in Green Bay shits on Nance's. There's no comparison. If I recall correctly, Grant produced more on the ground in the second half of '07 than any other running back in the league. Over the first two and a half years Grant spent in Green Bay, I believe only Adrian Peterson had more rushing yards.

A bird in the hand...

Grant is the bird in the hand. He has been a 1200 yards/year back. Starks has shown some ability in the end of the regular season and in the playoffs. But not to the level of Grants production. James has also shown a disturbing propensity for missing blocks.

Nerdly's defense of Nance saying that Grant took 9 weeks to take off is pretty funny. Nance has not taken off yet. Has not shown any signs of taking off and he has been at it longer than Grant when he took off (without the benefit of OTA or minni camp either). If Grant had such a take off, why does he need to be replaced? Replaced by a guy who has done nothing when it counts other than appear to have some potential to a few (possibly only 1) people.

Is this a case of blind hate for a player because of his alma mater? I can't see any other reason for it. Or is it envy for the RBs that get rushing titles but not championships. Maybe Nerd boy needs to find a team like MN where they are more likely to get that rushing title. We all know they won't win a Lombardi.

I detect an irrational hatred for the guy.

Btw, Grant has the highest IQ of any of the RBs on our team. He's also quite well spoken. I know that doesn't matter to a lot of folks, but it matters to me. I like players who can speak English instead of grunt speak.

Year Att Yrds TDs Lg Ave
2007 188 956 8 66 5.1
2008 312 1203 4 57 3.9
2009 282 1253 11 62 4.4

Start putting those stats up against other starting RBs in the NFL and you'll realize just how good Grant is. Yes, his weakness is the screen and I love screens probably more than anyone else on this board. But that's what a good third down back is for. It's a shame we didn't keep B-Jack as I love his blocking abilities. (Yes, I know he's out for the year). I trust 🇹🇹 and 🇲🇲 though thinking Green could replace B-Jack. I hope they're right. Just wish Edgar Bennett was still our RBs coach. He did a dang fine job as an RB coach.
