I made a Facebook page to show support to keep Prince in Milwaukee. He is our spark plug, how Prince goes is how the Crew goes.

I'm just trying to have some fun with it. Maybe some fun discussions or interesting stats.

Since they've been trading half of their future away, they better retain one of their somewhat young stars or the future will look very bleak.

I'm just hoping that they don't have to break the bank for him in a way that you're eventually going to run into trouble when you have to lock up some other guys. I mean, I know that they've got Braun a big contract, Gallardo's staying in Milwaukee, but you also traded for someone like Greinke who has just 2 years left on his contract (if I'm correct) and some role players who have suddenly got amazingly hot will want a raise if they keep this going... Thinking of Morgan and Betancourt here.

We'll see if he'll be back. I think that, with the Brewers showing that they're committed to winning right now, rather than (re)building, they'll have to sign him, really.

Here's my thinking...

Prince averaging say 35 HRs, 100 RBI, and batting .280 over his career will get in the HOF. Is 25 mil too much for a future Hall of Famer?

People always look at the salary and they don't seem to take into account what he brings off the field such as attendance numbers, concessions, and gear.

I really think that the Brewers will be making a BIG mistake if they don't make Prince a more than competitive offer.

He will also drive Fielder’s value up as much as possible. Fielder may get a 180 million contract and the Brewers just cannot compete with that.

At the end day, enjoy Fielder while you can. There is little to no chance he returns to Milwaukee next year. In actuality, the Brewers might be a better team if they promote Mat Gamel and offer Jose Reyes 120M. Just sayin'

You are correct about his agent. If Prince was using someone else, I'd feel better, but Boras is a douchebag.

I would like to see the Crew offer Prince like 150 mil/6 or 175m/7. That would make me think that the Brewers did all they could to keep him here in Milwaukee.

On a related note, I've been hearing rumblings that the Brewers are interested in Beltran. Could Milwaukee be looking to move say Corey Hart (or Braun) to first. I just don't see Mat Gamel as a viable replacement.

MLB needs a salary cap.
That's the ONLY way Milwaukee can keep any really talented players, and be competitive.
As long as teams like the Yankees can buy the best players, Milwaukee doesn't stand a chance.

I think they can field a pretty competitive team with the money they're spending. Tampa Bay managed to do as much. Same goes for Arizona.

The Brewers do have a core group of good and young players locked up.

Yo.
Hart
Weeks
Braun
Greinke for another year.

Plus they have a number of others still in arby.

Lucroy
Gomez (Albeit is he a defender only)

While I would love to keep Prince in Brew City.. realistically for the market and payroll they have.. can they really afford Prince with the current structure.

Probably not.

We have learned over the past couple year.. offense with no pitching is only going to get you so far. So we made moves to shore that up, our offense has been inconsistent and we are still right there.

MLB need a better form of revenue sharing model with a cap.. it will push down the overall salaries of the players, so don't see that coming anytime soon.

The good news of the current setup is that you can control the players longer, thus if your scouting department is of quality, you keep bringing up talent and moving talent for more young talent.

It can be done.. see the Twins.. just like football.. build through drafts and obtaining prospects.. and developing talent. Brewers just haven't done well developing pitching talent.

Now that they are more focused on pitching in the draft, have rebuild the pitching development through the farm system.. I anticipate that improving.

They are going for it this season, hence not moving Prince for prospects.. which is good for the fans this season. We shall see how it affects us moving forward.
