The Brewers do have a core group of good and young players locked up.

While I would love to keep Prince in Brew City.. realistically for the market and payroll they have.. can they really afford Prince with the current structure.
Probably not.
We have learned over the past couple year.. offense with no pitching is only going to get you so far. So we made moves to shore that up, our offense has been inconsistent and we are still right there.
MLB need a better form of revenue sharing model with a cap.. it will push down the overall salaries of the players, so don't see that coming anytime soon.
The good news of the current setup is that you can control the players longer, thus if your scouting department is of quality, you keep bringing up talent and moving talent for more young talent.
It can be done.. see the Twins.. just like football.. build through drafts and obtaining prospects.. and developing talent. Brewers just haven't done well developing pitching talent.
Now that they are more focused on pitching in the draft, have rebuild the pitching development through the farm system.. I anticipate that improving.
They are going for it this season, hence not moving Prince for prospects.. which is good for the fans this season. We shall see how it affects us moving forward.
