I can appreciate your righteous rants; but I am a football junkie and am willing to pay the dime, because it is my vice. .

I don't understand why people would be annoyed by the lockout at this point assuming it ends next week. Sure a bunch of old rich men were arguing with some young rich athletes about a lot of money, but ultimately they're going to get it resolved without missing games and making some reasonable compromises (lowered rookie contracts, no 18 game season, ect.). The rest of the offseason should be exciting because we are going to have a free agency frenzy (which the Packers probably won't participate in), almost immediately opening of training camp along with the preseason. Soon enough we'll be watching the Pack hand the Saints a loss to open the year.

Mind you, the money they are arguing over spending is that of the fans, who are comprised of people who save up months so they can take their child to one game, the same people who cut corners so they can order NFL Sunday Ticket to watch their team play and buy team memorabilia.

I understand why some are pissed off and why some have said fuck the NFL altogether. No one likes GREEDY people and that's what the NFL/Owners and Players are portraying of themselves by not being responsible enough to establish a CBA prior the previous ones expiration.

You think because games haven't been missed that the fan's haven't missed anything? What about the few open OTA's fan's can see? What about the Free Agency frenzy that so many fans love to watch happen?

There's more to the NFL than just the games.

Sitting down eating wings and being pleasured by a young... err served by a young waitress would be great. Unfortunately, DirecTV is my only option to see the games, in the confines of my home.

Beyond the mere principle of it all, one in which neither side (an exception could be argued for the retired players) was losing money or not making a  fair living.

Is the fact that franchises cited the lockout to withhold pay from employees in percentages or whole, laid off employees citing lack of income, or costing businesses and workers in some training camp locations their "expected" income by moving their training camps because of the time restraints.

This at a time in which a good portion of America is feeling the recession crunch, these parties boldly flaunted their personal greed because they couldn't agree on how to split the revenue pool of 9 Billion annually?

When this industry is granted tax breaks (just a little dip into the pool for basis) which in part allows them all to haul in this gaudy 9 Billion annually.

I love the sport.. I am an addict.. I wish I could tell the NFL to fuck off.. but on Sunday's I will watch. I will cheer for my team.. but it doesn't mean that I wouldn't hold a bit of contempt from those that drove the last couple years of greed.

I hold no ill-will towards anyone that goes on with sinking their money into the sport directly through merchandise and what not.. that is called personal choice.

My personal choice will be to withhold my direct spending on their product for a while at least.. merely on principle.

Here is some more reading on the my basis for being a bit edgy towards the whole damn thing.. something you won't hear on ESPN or networks because they have a stake in it... the TV money.

http://bx.businessweek.com/sports-marketing/view?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newjerseynewsroom.com%2Fprofessional%2Fnfl-lockout-2011-why-are-gov-christie-and-other-politicians-strangely-silent

Just one little snippet... a very good read overall.

The revision of the 1986 Federal Tax Code featured a loophole that owners immediately embraced. Any municipality building a stadium could only get back eight cents of every dollar generated in the facility to pay down the stadium debt. Owners, depending on the lease terms, could keep 92 cents of every dollar spent in the building.

Taxpayers should be asking why the politicos have gone troppo on this issue. Sports fans are not rational when it comes to their teams, their sport. They don't understand that sports is a business first and is heavily dependent on government support. State and local governments are spending hundreds of millions of dollars on facilities and are not coming close to breaking even on the projects. Because of that, governments have to tap other taxable areas to pay off the debt. There are all kinds of taxes, a hotel tax, a motel tax, car rental tax, sewer tax, cigarette tax, beer and alcohol tax, water tax and whatever else politicians can find to tax for sports. Sports owners can depreciate player contracts and don't pay any property taxes on facilities.

So my question is this.. why aren't more tax paying Americans not disgusted with the greed flaunted by these sports leagues, owners and athletes that are afforded extra breaks yet complaining about how to divvy up record revenues?

I'm not really buying this. The free agent frenzy will still exist and might be even better because it will be more urgent with training camps opening in the near future. And OTA's? What percentage of fans care about OTA's? An percentage probably attend.

I did not say free agency wouldn't exist. Nice try there. It will exist, but it will NOT be the same. You could be right, it could be more exciting, but that excitement will be FAR shorter lived than it would have been if it had occurred at its normal time.

I'm actually thinking that since teams made their draft choices, they will be less inclined to spend big money on free agents when they are about to find out what they have on their roster in just days, to weeks via training camp. My thinking is the financial risk just isn't worth it.

Either way, the free agency period is going to net far less long term excitement than it normally does.

Between the final game of the season and the first game of preseason, we fans have a few things to help us feed our football addiction. Free agency, minicamps, OTA's, nfl draft, training camp to name a few. Now each of these even if not attended provide media sources for stories, to of which we soak up and read. Articles on this stuff gives fans something to TALK about.

Free agency is something that at any time you can read about a rumor that so an so is in your teams town, that brings EXCITEMENT. We didn't get that this off season. The potential landing of a free agent, big or small is exciting for fans, it's something to read about it, something to TALK about.

The draft gives fans something to TALK about, thankfully we had that. We should also mention the lockout effected the draft too. Players were not available to be traded for draft picks. There's another element of excitement LOST and of course one less thing to TALK about.

So, without much else to talk about, guess what's on topic? That's right, the subject of millionaires and billionaires being greedy over how to spend the fans middle class wages.

I say this humorously, if you still don't understand HOW someone could be annoyed by the lockout, even with a full slate of games, well buddy you have your head in the sand, lol. :P

Myself, personally, I'm annoyed because of the principle of things and for my own selfish reasons. I enjoy reading articles during the off season, the excitement of hearing about this free agent landing here or there, reading about the possibility of the Packers trading this person for these picks on draft day, etc ... I like that stuff, it keeps me going. I selfishly feel I was robbed of that and that annoys me.
