I think the headset thing is more so because Barnett as the MLB can afford to roam around a bit before the snap, communicate with the D-Line and DBs.
Kinda hard to have Woodson with the headset when he's gotta worry about WR motions, etc.
Also kinda hard to give the headset to Kampman when he's gotta maintain his technique and keep good pad level to do his job properly.
The MLB is a convenient position to have the headset on.
