Cullen, "Man I really wanted to play for Green Bay for a reduced rate, but thank you Mr. Snyder, I'll gladly sign on the dotted line because you are the highest bidder, and I already have a ring."

Your guys' BS detectors don't go off on that one?

Uneducated Packer fans, "Man, Ted Thompson is a tight ass!"

Educated Packer fans, "It's a good thing we have this young stud Neal to take his place!"

Like I said, thanks Cullen, but fuck off and go cash in. Everyone is happy except Nostalgic Packer fans that enjoyed watching you destroy Chicago's O-line.

Damn, man. I like you more everyday. Even though we disagree on almost everything not Packers-related.

First, I think it's unrealistic to expect players to play for our team at a reduced rate. Second, and more importantly, apparently that wasn't an option because the Packers didn't make Jenkins an offer AT ALL. He is no longer a part of their plan. They're banking on Neal to take his place.

I like it that since you couldn't find anything bad that Jenkins said, you just made up something silly. Also, the feelings that you attribute to "uneducated Packer fans" are not something I've seen much of, if at all. Most fans seem to accept the fact that Jenkins is going to command a higher salary than what the Packers want to pay him, considering his injury issues. This whole thing is just a non-issue, as far as I'm concerned.

Somewhere in the middle lies the truth, I think.

I don't think it's BS that Jenkins claims to have offered the Packers a discount, and then may sign with the highest bidder. He and his agent might expect they can get $25 mil guaranteed (arbitrary # for discussion purposes), so he may have offered to play for $22 mil guaranteed. It could be a deal in Jenkins' mind, and be less than the free market would likely pay him, without it being what the Packers think they should spend on him right now.

I also don't think you can read to much into the Packers not giving him an offer. They know what he expects based on what his agent proposed to them, and it may have been way out of their ballpark, or more than they believe he would get in free agency. I'm sure they would like to have him back at the right price. Why wouldn't they? It's not like they didn't give him an offer because they don't think he's even worth a veteran minimum contract. They probably just know that what they would offer isn't even in the ballpark of what he is expecting to get, or maybe it just isn't the right time to sign him, and they wanted to see what happened with the CBA and draft first. No one knows right now. Maybe now that they didn't draft a DL high, they'll put a higher priority on re-signing Jenkins.

Last year most thought Clifton and/or Tauscher would be gone in FA. We just have to wait and see, and accept what happens. The guys running the Packers have proven that they know what they're doing.

How is he trying to drive a wedge between the fans and management? He didn't even get a contract offer from the Packers. That means they don't want him anymore.

"Greg C." wrote:

Did the Packers offer Clifton a contract before he became a FA last year?

I don't know but I didn't hear about anything or any interest in resigning him...

Then he went to the Redskins to get an offer and the Packers matched it.

Could the same thing happen with Jenkins? ...
I don't know... but I like to think it still could happen
