I think the Packers were concerned over his health and also with the thinking that Johnny Jolly would be coming back wisely held off. If he's one of the three best DL the Packers have, then sign him. If he's not, let him walk. One thing I can say with certainty is the Packers won't over pay him if they retain his rights via Free Agency.

If the Franny-Tag comes back, we could always trade him a la Corey Williams.

Teddy could use another 3rd, Barnot could also net a mid-lower pick.

(if hes not cut)

Actually.. after getting my hopes up last year.. I have placed the dirt over my plant bust thought on Harrell.. albeit at least he had some medical issues that helped land him in bustville. Some guys do that all by themselves.. that said.. he didn't help himself either with keeping himself in top shape though.

Am I the only one who hasn't given up on Justin Harrell?

I would love him to reach his potential.. just find it difficult to predict that at this point. Nothing personal..

I am split on this for one reason only, we don't have depth at defensive line.

95- Green, Howard- part-time player
??- Guy, Lawrence- unproven rookie
91- Harrell, Justin- unproven bust
77- Jenkins, Cullen- injury prone, but best we have atm (DE)
96- Neal, Mike- unproven, injured.
79- Pickett, Ryan- aging but useful
98- Wilson, C.J.- decent at best atm.
94- Wynn, Jarius- decent at best atm.
68- Ross, Jay- ? (sorry for my ignorance)
90- Raji, B.J.- obviously greatness.

In my opinion, Jenkins is needed on the team. Obviously his asking price was too high at the time and the Packers were banking on the return of Mr. Purp Jolly, but things have changed. I believe Jenkins is needed on this defensive line.

You are selling this group short.
Green may be a "part time player" but he has a job to do and he does it well. Stop the run on 1st and 2nd downs. Not everyone can do that.

Pickett may be "aging but useful". Is he going to be effective this year? I don't see why not. There is nothing to indicate he will be unable to do his job. His production was comparable to 2009 with a couple of extra solo tackles and a sack. He may decline next year or the year after but I am not going to worry about those seasons at this time.
His job and the job of the other DL is not to lead the team in tackles or sacks. Rather the unglamorous job of taking up space and letting the LBers get the tackles.

Neal, Wilson, Wynn- you are not allowing the the chance to grow. Jenkins, Jolly and others were unproven or merely decent at one time as well. With reps and coaching they grew. These players can too. Who knows with Guy. He is a year or two away from making any kind of statement about.

Pickett and Green both have at least one or two years in them. Neal was already a beast as a rookie. CJ Wilson is only getting better, and Wynn just needs to eat more Gilbert Burgers.
As for Justin Harrell, keep in mind, the questions about him were with his back. This past season he got caught up in a pile on special teams and someone rolled up on his knee. That could happen to anyone. His back held up all year. As far as I'm concerned, he should be back.
Oh yeah and Raji. He's gonna be a pro bowler. And I don't mean a professional bowler.

If there is down side to the way Ted Thompson manages the team, it's this. I hate to see great players who still have a few great years left in the tank leave in free agency. However, with Neal and Wilson waiting in the ranks, resigning Jenkins, despite any discount he is willing to provide, would not make since.
