After seven years on the Packers defensive line, Cullen Jenkins assumes hell sign elsewhere in free agency.

Jenkins repeated Wednesday what he has previously said, that he wanted to stay in Green Bay enough that he offered last year to take less money to stay with the Packers than he thought he could make in free agency, but the Packers werent interested.

Heading into last year, Ive always been up there and always been a Packer, and I wanted to stay a Packer, Jenkins said, per Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com. So we approached the team and wanted to get some type of security, some type of longer-term deal before the season so I would know I would be there. It wasnt about money, it was about security, about trying to see if we could work something out.

When asked if he would have given the Packers a hometown discount, Jenkins said, Yeah. That was the thought then. I knew in going to them, I know Green Bay, I know the market, I know how they handle business, and the thought was if we could get something reasonable worked out, I knew I would take less than what I couldve gotten in free agency. But they never approached me with anything and never got any type of negotiations going. Its just how the business is. They had a lot of younger guys and felt they could move forward in that direction.

So Jenkins expects to sign with another team, whenever free agents are allowed to sign with teams. He may not have to move his family too far, as the Bears are thought to be interested.

Hope he doesn't go to the Bears.
I'm saddened to lose him.

Perhaps post-lockout something can be worked out. I know he is injury prone, but I would really hate to see him leave. I like C.J. Wilson, but I'm not sure that our line is ready to move on without him. In the end I think the organization knows best though, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Oftenly injured 300 pound men in their 30s don't tend to get long, big money deals, strangely enough.

And what does he expect to get, anyway? A fair deal with hometown discount could still be way too high for what the brings to the table.

We'll replace him.

My guess.. the Packers hedged their bets last year on Jolly being in the mix and letting the year play itself out.

And as Rock mentions.. who knows what type of deal he approached the Pack with....

Time will tell the story.. I don't see the market with the number of DLmen that went early in the draft.. there being a deep market in FA for Defensive bigs looking for that last payday.

Albeit.. Jenkin does something of a premium from a down.. push the pocket.

Dang, Detlev stole my thunder. What does Jenkins mean by a hometown discount? No matter what he proposed to the Packers, it was still more than they have had to pay him in the past and more than they will have to pay any other their other linemen.

Considering how little most of the other Packers castoffs I can think of have accomplished in the league after leaving Green Bay, i am not too concerned.

I am split on this for one reason only, we don't have depth at defensive line.

95- Green, Howard- part-time player
??- Guy, Lawrence- unproven rookie
91- Harrell, Justin- unproven bust
77- Jenkins, Cullen- injury prone, but best we have atm (DE)
96- Neal, Mike- unproven, injured.
79- Pickett, Ryan- aging but useful
98- Wilson, C.J.- decent at best atm.
94- Wynn, Jarius- decent at best atm.
68- Ross, Jay- ? (sorry for my ignorance)
90- Raji, B.J.- obviously greatness.

In my opinion, Jenkins is needed on the team. Obviously his asking price was too high at the time and the Packers were banking on the return of Mr. Purp Jolly, but things have changed. I believe Jenkins is needed on this defensive line.

Honestly I want him back and I thought he'd be franchise tagged and then signed to a long term cheaper deal like Pickett did...

But a
Matthews, Neal, Raji, Jenkins, Zombo
front sounds like it could be AMAZING!!! if they stayed healthy...

Take Jenkins out of that and it doesn't look the same and Neal's injuries play a much bigger role in my mind...
