Overview

Green does not project to be an every-down back at the next level, but he is a weapon in the passing game and could contribute on third down. He has prototypical size, but he runs a bit upright and will not consistently break tackles in the NFL. He also has a case of fumble-itis. He excels in the passing game, as he shows the ability to consistently get open, catches the ball away from his body and turns upfield without any wasted motion. Green will likely be a late round pick due to his ability as a receiver.

Strengths
Green is a big back with quick feet. Finds running lanes quickly and shows good explosion through the hole. Possesses a bit of a wiggle to make defenders miss in the open field. Shows great instincts as a receiver, runs precise routes and has terrific hands. Fights to the whistle and finishes runs.
Weaknesses
Lacks the top end speed to break the long one. Runs too high and gets tackled too easily at times. Will not be able to push the pile in short yardage situations at the next level. Does not keep the ball high and tight and fumbles far too frequently. Struggles to block linebackers in pass protection.
Grade
3.7

The video says "physical and strong," but I just read somewhere that Green "lacks physicality." 230 pounds is really big, so I don't know how he could not be physical. I would think he's a good candidate to replace Brandon Jackson as the third down back. With Grant, Starks, Kuhn, and this guy, the backfield should be well stocked. I really didn't think of RB as a position of need. I would've rather had an OLB, CB, or DE with this pick. Ted probably knows what he is doing, though. He almost always does.

Overview

Green's surprising burst, quickness and solid hands out of the backfield have drawn some late attention from NFL scouts, but he lacks the vision and instincts to be an every-down back at the next level.

This is not to say that he doesn't have a place on an NFL roster. After all, how many NFL teams use a true every-down back?

Green's size and straight-ahead running style could make him a nice short-yardage or even fullback option, and his natural pass-catching ability provides the versatility that teams seemingly can't get enough of in today's pass-heavy NFL. Teams looking to add a running back should give Green strong consideration between rounds four and six.
Analysis

Positives: Big, tough, physical cut-and-go back with a knack for lowering his shoulder and creating contact. Decisive, hard runner who knows where he's going as soon as he gets the ball. Reaches top speed quickly with a quick first step and strong initial burst toward the hole. Keeps his weight forward and feet churning, rarely falling back or losing yardage. Quick feet for a back of his size. Willingly engages defenders along the sideline to earn the extra yard rather than stepping out of bounds. Soft, reliable hands as a pass-catcher. Displays good balance and body control, extending his arms to catch balls thrown outside of his upper torso. Nice concentration to secure passes in the flat before looking upfield. Isn't afraid to take on defensive linemen in pass protection and maintains route accuracy through contact from linebackers when running routes in the flat.

Negatives: One-dimensional, straight-ahead runner who lacks vision and recognition to cutback and extend runs. Too willing to initiate contact in one-on-one situations, often lowering his shoulder when he has the space to elude tackler laterally. Leans too far forward at times and will lower his head prematurely, rendering him off balance. Short, quick steps and low knees leave him vulnerable to arm tackles below the waist, and easier to bring down than his size would indicate he should be. A one-speed back, lacking a top gear to pull away from second-level defenders. Lacks patience to allow holes to develop, often outrunning his blockers.

Looks quick and explosive... the highlight video mostly shows him running through holes you could drive trucks through though. Not sure how that translates to the NFL. Still though, competition breeds improvement, so add him to our backfield.

dfosterf (18-Aug) : We do have good depth at running back imo. Still so frustrating. Bitching about it is a futile excercise, which I plan to do anyway.

packerfanoutwest (12-Aug) : Matt LaFleur: “Highly unlikely” Jordan Love plays more this preseason
dfosterf (12-Aug) : Doubs, Savion Williams, LVN, Musgrave all banged up to one degree or another, missing one here I forget

TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
