I'm not challenging that it's not burned, but what makes you think the front office and Cullen Jenkins have their bridge burned? I recall some of Jenkins comments saying he was upset or bothered that no one contacted him about his contract and he thought he was good as gone. I didn't think anything he said would burn any bridge.

I have no proof, but in reading his comments he sounded pissed off that they didn't offer him a new contract. I'm assuming that because of this, he is ready to move on to a team that shows they really want him and is willing to put their money where their mouth is. As Brett always used to say, players want to feel wanted. I feel like Jenkins is "butthurt" about the lack of effort to bring him back and is ready to move on.

I think something similar happened to Aaron Kampman, right? I don't think there were many if any talks about a contract until shortly prior to the dead line.

I think whatever reason the Packers haven't approached Jenkins previously has to do with the possible lockout/CBA garbage and once resolved, I bet they contact his agent about a contract.

Green Bay Packers DE Johnny Jolly remains jailed on drug charge

Green Bay Packers defensive end Johnny Jolly, accused of felony possession of a controlled substance, will remain in a Houston jail until at least Wednesday, when his postponed initial appearance is scheduled.

A Harris County judge on Monday rejected Jollys request for bond in the case, which means hell remain in jail, a court spokeswoman said.

Hes expected to come with a new lawyer to Wednesdays court appearance, or the court will appoint a lawyer, the court spokeswoman said.

Houston police arrested him Friday after allegedly finding 600 grams of codeine in his Cadillac Escalade.

Jolly, 28, entered a pretrial diversion agreement with Harris County last year over a similar allegation stemming from a 2008 arrest outside a Houston club. The agreement deferred prosecution in exchange for a promise by Jolly to remain out of trouble, among other conditions.

Donna Hawkins of the Harris County district attorneys office told the Green Bay Press-Gazette last week that the new charge likely will be regarded as a violation of that agreement. That means the older charge would be brought up again but probably not until the new charge is resolved, Hawkins said.

The NFL suspended Jolly for at least the 2010 season in connection with the older charge. He became eligible for reinstatement after the Super Bowl last month. He has not been reinstated by the NFL and does not appear on the Packers roster on their website.

The Packers said Friday that the team had no comment on Jollys latest arrest.

Remember when we people were talking about Jolly coming back and I said I didn't want him because he was a drug dealer and didn't think he would change? No? Ok then. I do. Good thing I'm above bringing that kind of thing up and saying "Told you so." Good thing.....

I couldn't find your comment that backed up this comment. Can you find it? Good thing I'm above calling people out. Good thing .....

(ill sit an hope he doesn't find it now lol)

I trust that you actually did try to find it and believe that you didn't anywhere. Maybe it was in Gameday chat or Fan Shout or something, idk. I distinctly remember it. I'm really not bitter about it, it truly is a shitty situation that he has to go and do this to himself again when he's on the cusp on coming back into the league.
I just recall that some people had been very pro-Jolly and thought that this wouldn't affect him or our team at all, while I said that this is not the type of player we want on our team.
I don't know how you perform your searches, but whether or not you found it, the conversation took place.

in case anyone cares to read it:

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/25673/chatwrap-no-jenkins-with-or-without-jolly

We started off Tuesday's SportsNation chat with a question I've been seeing pretty regularly since Houston police arrested Green Bay Packers defensive end Johnny Jolly last week. Here's how it went:

shane (atl)

i know everything in some way ultimately depends on the cba, but what are the chances of the packers resigning cullen jenkins? i felt he has been a huge part of their defense (when healthy) for years, and now that he is finally getting recognition instead of his over the hill brother, it seems he wont be returning. please tell me im wrong.... also what's the likely fate of the very very stupid johnny jolly (talkin jailtime, i know football is out of the question anytime in near future)?

Kevin Seifert (2:02 PM)

I didn't think there was much of a chance the Packers would re-sign Jenkins before this latest Johnny Jolly news, and I still don't. The Packers were looking at Jolly as a bonus if he did return. Their plan, and this fits along with what they've done at many other positions in recent years, appears to be to plug in some of the young players -- Mike Neal, C.J. Wilson, maybe Jarius Wynn -- to Jenkins' position. Stranger things have happened, but I think they would have re-signed Jenkins before the lockout if they wanted him back.

Jolly has been in jail since Friday awaiting a Wednesday morning court hearing. He's expected to see significant jail time, and I'm guessing the Packers have trashed any plans they might have had for him in the short- or long-term future.

Again, I think the Packers would have re-signed Jenkins during their exclusive window in February if they wanted him back. I don't think Jolly's potential presence played into their decision not to. Instead, it was the presence of Neal, Wilson, Wynn and possibly more names to come from the 2011 draft.

Jenkins was highly productive last season and certainly has some good seasons remaining. But look at the Packers' defense right now. By my count, they've signed seven of their 11 starters to market-level, multi-year contracts in the past two years. You would figure that linebacker Clay Matthews is next, followed at some point by nose tackle B.J. Raji.

Not even the most aggressive NFL teams can have a proven and well-paid starter at every position. Given the landscape of the Packers' contract situation, and their relative depth at defensive end, you can see how Jenkins might be an (unfortunate) odd man out.

It's all economics. A team can only hang on to so many players and pay a premium for them.

It's not like we're the only team stuck with having to let go of a good player. Every team out there has FA's in similar positions and will simply have to part ways.

The only way I see Jenkins back is if the FA's stay stuck until late in the summer when most of them will sign one year deals with their current teams and then reload next year. Not out of the realm with the way this crock of crap is going.

It will be amazing how the owners and players will find a way to kiss and make up just before it starts costing both sides a boat load of money.

Jolly

A judge denied bond for troubled Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Johnny Jolly on Wednesday following his latest drug arrest in Houston.

The decision means Jolly will remain jailed until at least his next court appearance April 20. He did not appear in court during the brief hearing.

Jolly was arrested Friday morning and has been charged with possession of more than 400 grams of a controlled substance. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.

After the hearing, prosecutor Todd Keagle said Jolly's arrest voided a probation agreement the defensive lineman had with the Harris County District Attorney's Office that settled a 2008 drug charge. It was the earlier charge that led to his suspension by the NFL without pay for all of last season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

Police said that after pulling over Jolly's vehicle during a traffic stop, officers found a bottle containing 600 grams of codeine under the passenger's seat and another bottle containing an unidentified substance in the driver's side door.

"At this point, he's maintaining his innocence," said Carl Moore, Jolly's attorney.

Moore said he will make another attempt to have Jolly released on bond, which prosecutors are against.

At the time of his arrest, Jolly had an agreement with the Harris District Attorney's Office in which he had been given pretrial diversion, a form of probation.

Under that agreement, the 2008 drug charge against him would have been dismissed by August if he didn't break the law. Part of the sentence was 160 hours of community service, which included 10 speaking engagements where he was supposed to talk to children and others about the dangers of drug use.

"His pretrial diversion is being voided because Mr. Jolly did not adhere to the terms of his contract, in our opinion," Keagle said.

The end of the agreement means Jolly now will be facing two charges in court: the new one, and the 2008 charge of possessing at least 200 grams of codeine, which carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years, Keagle said.

Moore said Jolly had been training as part of his efforts to get reinstated in the NFL. He did not know how this most recent arrest would affect that.

Brian Overstreet, Jolly's agent, did not immediately return a telephone call Wednesday.

A Packers spokesman declined to comment on Jolly's situation.

Jolly attended high school in Houston and played for Texas A&M University. He was selected by the Packers in the sixth round of the 2006 NFL draft.

The 6-foot-3, 325-pound Jolly, who lives in a Houston suburb, started all 16 games for Green Bay in 2008 and '09. Without him, the Packers won the Super Bowl last season.
