Question - would you rather have 150 running yards or 45 points?

The answer to that question is the answer to your question. I don't care how we get the points. We win games by scoring. If it's 50 runs and 1 pass, cool. If it's 50 passes and 1 run, cool. Passing gives us our best chance of scoring.

As for our RBs, Jackson's blocking ability cannot be praised enough. His blocking is in the top 30% of what I've seen, and I've watched a lot of RBs since 1976. I'm very proud of him.

FYI - The Steelers won the SB two years ago with 58 total yards rushing. The Saints won the SB last year with even less. Should we take away their Lombardi trophies because they didn't get enough rushing yards?

Well folks, read this entire thread. We must have lost the Super Bowl because we didn't get our 92 yards rushing.

Damn I'm good.

Read the entire thread, still agree with myself.

I do note that our offense in the 2nd half--when we abandoned the run for a pass-only attack--generated all of 10 pts.

Good thing we were +3 in turnovers and got 21 pts in the first half when we were still running the ball to keep the defense honest...

You are wrong, we didn't abandon the run.
Mike McCarthy said in a PC that he called the majority of the plays were run/pass option plays. When he put the game in Rodgers hands, it was not by calling pass plays. It was leaving the decision up to Rodgers.

Rodgers read the Steelers D and picked the option that would best exploit the Steelers D.

It is the Steelers fault we threw so much.

The only reason we were not as productive in the 3rd quarter is the inordinate number of drops. Not because the D was teeing off on the line without fear of our run game or blanketing the WRs or forcing an inaccurate throw.

For whatever reason--whether it was McCarthy/Rodgers/Steelers defense--we did abandon the run. You can argue the why, but an 85/15% pass/run ratio in the 3rd qtr is pretty much abandoning the run.

We threw 11 passes in the 3rd qtr, and gained 36 yards. (Well, 10 actually, the 11th was a sack that I counted as a pass). 6 of those 10 were incomplete. That's a lot of drops, Dexter.

I'll repeat my question from another thread--which did you like better, our first half offense or our second half offense?

I didn't have a problem with the calls or the reads. I did have a problem with the drops.

I agreed with Mike McCarthy when he said that Starks was running well and he would have like to keep handing it to him. But the reads were pass, and they were right. The calls were the same, it was just the reads.

Forgive me if I go with Rodgers instead of you. He is probably the best in the league for pre snap reads. If he thinks the best way to beat the Stealers alignment on a particular play is with a pass, he is probably right.

One quarter of poor production doesn't significantly prove anything explicitly, in my opinion. The Steeler's had the number one defense against the run, I think. So if they come out in certain formations, Rodger's decided, from hours and hours of film study, that it was not in his teams best interest to run. That run:pass ratio doesn't mean a lot to me. It's all about execution of whatever your doing. Sure, running the ball makes things a bit easier, but that doesn't mean we still aren't capable of moving down the field easily. Just have to execute better, regardless of how much we run or pass, and then it's a non-issue.

We won the SB so I'll go with whatever they did as right.

I think it would be pretty hard to prove that thinking wrong.

I like what they're doing. I never liked the idea that you had to run to establish the pass, if that works fine. But, if it doesn't why not pass to establish the run, take what the D gives you, attack their weakness, use what works best, etc.
