Losing Jenkins worries me. Because everyone has been talking about we got Matthews but we need someone on the other side to also be a good rusher... what some having realized is we have had it, it's been Jenkins and when healthy he's done GREAT! ... he's just having some problems staying healthy.

But if we lose Jenkins we need to find another pass rusher at DE and/or OLB... some people have been saying it's clearly Neal, but Neal has been more injured than Jenkins, when healthy didn't play as well and some of his injury sounded serious like they might stick with even going into the future. So I'm not sure we can count on him even though he showed great potential.

Yeah, you're right, because this position not being taken care off for the last 2 years gives me immense confidence.

What I think is this... The position is too weak to actually get a real push from anyone besides Matthews, but too strong to really make it a huge priority. Which means that, if the pieces don't fall exactly in place, we'll be stuck with a list of very low-end starters yet again.

Neal is good, but you can't expect any DE/DT to come in and consistently get pressure off the edge, let alone such an unproven guy like Neal.

We had to come out with some weird formations in the SB. Formations that used all our d-linemen on one side, over the guard and tackle, with Hawk on the other and Matthews in the middle. The kind of packages that can be destroyed by the run. I think that, had the Steelers not have been playing catch-up just about the entire game, we wouldn't have been able to get the pressure necessary to keep them down.

Capers' scheming is great, but it can only do so much. The reason the Steelers are consistently winning with their defense is because of pressure. James Harrison on one side and LaMarr Woodley is as close to being unstoppable as it gets. Then with guys like Keissel, Farrior and Hood who can also generate some push, you have the lay-out for a consistently great defense.

Rock, I think to say something hasn't been addressed in two years is not looking at what HAS been addressed. In reality the team was missing several parts when the switch was made to the 3-4. Ted latched onto Mathews, Raji, Burnett, and, Neal in that time and Bulaga was a no-brainer. That pretty much takes up the first couple of rounds over the last two years.

Besides, it's not like Ted doesn't want Jenkins to stay. It's one of those deals where he's at that point for someone to cough up the big bucks and will probably get overpaid. Happens all the time.

As far as the team has come personnel wise to get the 3-4 right it won't be as difficult replacing Jenkins now as it would have been last year or the year before. We're in pretty darn good shape in most positions.

I am pretty sure we're going to see an OLB or DE name called at #32. That might make you feel a little better.

I didn't try to imply that they're not doing anything to shore up the position, but I doubt they're doing all they could.

This is my theory.

Ted and Mike seem to get hooked on their guys. They don't want to see them leave and appear to overvalue them at times (although, most of the time, they're spot on). The OLB position opposite of Clay might be the best example.

For the first year, I can't really fault them. Having Kampman on one side and Thompson on the other, while having rookie Matthews playing in a rotational role looked like it would be a good group to build on. Especially in just your first year in the new defense. (Although I thought Kampman was questionable at OLB at the time, I was very high on Thompson).

It's just that last year, we went in with Brad Jones as the starter opposite of Matthews. We didn't draft anyone, because they overvalued someone who shouldn't be more than a rotational player. With Walden looking somewhat decent, Zombo showing us a little bit and Jones coming back, I reckon we might just go with the position again as it is.

I know, it's better to draft BPA and not reach, but some DE/OLB picks would be great this year. Someone's bound to fall to us somewhere in the first 3 rounds. And trading is still an option.

I do think there's a good chance we trade away #32. I said 10% chance. let me change that to 30% chance it happens.

I don't see this as a trade down draft. We have very few holes on our roster.

We'd have to cut good players to make room for additional guys.

I'd like to see us go offensive line with one of our first two picks. I wouldn't mind trading up a couple spots if it lets us nab Gabe Carimi or Anthony Costanzo if one of those two guys drop.

We'd have our bookends at tackle for the next 10 years with either one of those guys and Bulaga.

Future o-line

LT: Carimi
LG: Lang
OC:Wells
RG: Sitton
RT: Bulaga

In Mel Kiper's new mock, he has us selecting

Brooks Reed, OLB, Arizona

At about 260 pounds, Reed is a productive player who profiles well as a rushing 3-4 outside linebacker who could help take some pressure off Clay Matthews in Dom Capers' system. A smart player with above-average quickness, he's a sleeper in this class, as a player who can get after the passer, but also shows instincts as a guy who can drop into coverage.

Looks like a CM3 wanna-be, haha. If he could turn into half the player Clay is, he would be a great pick!

According to SI.com draft analyst Tony Pauline, the Packers "are interested" in Arizona DE/LB Brooks Reed.

Not to be outdone Sumners teammate, record setting sackmaster Marc Schiechl, also wowed the scouts in attendance. Schiechl, who holds the Div-II record with 45 career sacks, ran 4.64-seconds in the forty, posted a 35-inch vertical jump and broad jump of 10-feet, 5-inches. Oh yeh- he also completed 38 reps on the bench. Primarily playing defensive end in college, Schiechl measured 6-feet, 2.5-inches and weighed 251-pounds. He was put through a battery of linebacker drills and looked terrific. He also will showcase his skills again during the Air Force pro-day.

The Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers were on hand for the workout. This is the second time weve seen the Packers front and center looking at a potential bookend OLB to pair with Clay Matthews. As we mentioned from the Senior Bowl the team is interested in Brooks Reed.

I saw that too and looked for some tape of him he looks pretty good. He's moves are a bit basic, outside speed rush or inside power rush but Green should be able to teach that stuff....

What I liked is he didn't just attack the OL, he read the OL first and attacked their weak point, if they gave extra help outside he would swing inside, if they said inside he would attack the outside... and he read the ball very well... seemed to know who had the ball... on one handoff the QB got me I thought he still had the ball on a playfake but nope the RB got it...

Also he dropped back into coverage once, he didn't look like he was used to back pedaling but he got to his zone and watched the QB ... he read the QB eyes and broke towards that area where the RB caught the ball and he was all over him no time to make a move for the RB other than just catching it.

I'm not sure if he's majorly talented but he could be another Zombo type... maybe a bit better in pass rushing but bit worse in run stopping... but I think he has true LB potential and could be a 3-4 OLB.
