da Bears have found their QB. Let's see if they're smart enough to actually start him over Cutler.

"millertime" wrote:

A bit premature, don't you think? But it could get interesting if he has a good training camp and Cutler gets off to a slow start.

"JamesPack" wrote:

I think teams like the Vikes, Titans and Cardinals may be little interested by his play today. Fair play to him, he went out there with no fear.

"Greg C." wrote:

We had no film on the guy. Unknown QBs play well often, because the D has no idea what he's capable of.

"zombieslayer" wrote:

I might buy that argument if he was a running QB and he made a lot of plays with his feet, but he didn't. He mostly just stood back there and threw the ball. And threw it well. I give him all the credit in the world for how he played. He put the Bears back in the game. He did throw two picks, though.

LOL he's gonna catch some hell for that, I bet. It's true, though. My roommate (Vikings fan) said that when Cutler went out, the game was over for the Bears. I said that that was when the game started for the Bears. Cutler was playing horribly up to that point, and he would have only played worse from there as the pressure piled on.

Honestly, Peppers should have been ejected for that hit. Not only was it a flagrant helmet-to-helmet shot, but he also slapped Rodgers on the helmet after he took him to the ground. That was just uncalled-for, and I don't even like the contact-to-the-QB's-helmet rule.

This game just reinforced my desire to see our offensive line position coach gone after the Super Bowl, as well as my hope that Ted Thompson will draft another stout offensive lineman in the first round and a solid possession wide receiver somewhere in the 2nd through 4th. It's actually amazing Starks was able to grind out 74 yards on the ground. The defense was in our backfield on essentially just about every single play. There were several plays that looked like they should have been tackles for loss that Starks somehow managed to turn into no gain or gain of one. Overall, the line should be embarrassed by their performance on this, the second-biggest stage the game has to offer.

As I've said many times, I love the drama and excitement of close games. I love the nailbiters. Obviously, I'll take a blowout any day, but we all know that isn't Mike McCarthy's typical style.

Watching these Packers games is like getting a good cardiovascular workout while drinking beer. :D

Two things. First, the hand-to-helmet contact came from Briggs on the play, not Peppers. Julius got there first, but the hand to the helmet happened when Briggs came in on the hit.

Second, "we all know that isn't Mike McCarthy's typical style." I'm a little extra salty about this type of rhetoric. Even I questioned some of the playcalls there in the second half, but again, it comes down to execution more than anything. It isn't fair to pin it on McCarthy and imply that he prefers nailbiters. Sure there have been more than a share of close games this season, but emphatic wins over Atlanta, New York, Dallas, Minnesota, San Fran, Buffalo ... they paint an overall picture.

The Packers have never trailed more than 7 points this season. Here we have the tendency to give credit to seemingly everybody except for the head coach. I am thankful for Capers, Thompson, Rodgers/Matthews/Woodson/Jennings/Raji/Jenkins/Driver/etc. just as much as the next guy. I am also thankful for McCarthy.

I don't mean to sound pissy. At this point, I think it's clear how I feel.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

Agreed on all counts. Play calling was not the problem in the second half. McCarthy mixed it up just fine. The problem was that the O-line kept getting leakier and leakier as the game went on, and Rodgers missed a couple of easy throws that he normally makes--both of them after that blatantly illegal hit by Peppers and Briggs. (I was wondering if they would eject Peppers for that hit. It was that bad.)

And he, Urlacher, Briggs, and Marinelli were so pissed that Peppers even got flagged for that hit. lol

Florio and evad summed up things very well.

It's interesting to see who the new star is each week. week 16 it was Walden, vs. the eagles it was starks, Rodgers, Williams, Woody, and Clay vs. the Falcons, and Raji, Starks, and Masthay today. This is a very well rounded team.

As for Evad's points, the execution failed as much as anything. Quarless missed a fairly easy 3rd down conversion in the 3rd quarter, Rodgers was short to driver on Briggs' int and a 4th quarter 3rd and 1 to Crabtree that was a pretty good call, and I have no clue what the hell Collins was doing on Bennett's td. Valid points could be made about play calling, but clearly the bigger issue was shooting ourselves in the foot.

I'm not trying to be doom and gloom, just countering a point.
