I have no reason to post this here, except just one small thing as far as game notes go...

This is the play-by-play for the beginning of the 3rd quarter--

Third Quarter 1/15/2011
GB elects to Receive, and ATL elects to defend the East goal.
M.Koenen kicks 70 yards from ATL 30 to end zone, Touchback.
Green Bay Packers at 15:00
1-10-GB 20 (15:00) A.Rodgers sacked at GB 10 for -10 yards (J.Abraham).
2-20-GB 10 (14:29) (Shotgun) A.Rodgers pass short right to G.Jennings to GB 17 for 7 yards (B.Grimes).
3-13-GB 17 (13:46) (Shotgun) A.Rodgers pass short left to J.Jones ran ob at GB 32 for 15 yards. P17
1-10-GB 32 (13:16) A.Rodgers pass short right to J.Nelson to GB 41 for 9 yards (S.Nicholas).
2-1-GB 41 (12:46) J.Starks right guard to ATL 46 for 13 yards (T.DeCoud, M.Peterson). R18
1-10-ATL 46 (12:01) J.Starks right tackle to ATL 37 for 9 yards (W.Moore).
2-1-ATL 37 (11:19) J.Starks right end to ATL 35 for 2 yards (C.Lofton). R19
1-10-ATL 35 (10:35) A.Rodgers pass incomplete short right to D.Lee.
2-10-ATL 35 (10:29) (Shotgun) J.Starks right end to ATL 32 for 3 yards (C.Lofton).
3-7-ATL 32 (9:47) (Shotgun) A.Rodgers pass short right to J.Nelson to ATL 18 for 14 yards (B.Grimes). P20
Timeout #1 by GB at 09:06.
1-10-ATL 18 (9:06) (Shotgun) A.Rodgers pass short left to J.Nelson pushed ob at ATL 7 for 11 yards (W.Moore). P21
1-7-ATL 7 (8:42) A.Rodgers scrambles right end for 7 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

3rd and 13 at our own 17. Rodgers had been sacked for minus 10. The crowd was getting pumped, they sensed a potential momentum swing. Rodgers bails to his LEFT and fires what has to be one of the finest examples of an across-the-body throw to JAMES Jones, our much-maligned WR...

It don't get any better than that, boys and girls---Loved me some Aaron Rodgers and JAMES Jones THAT play

Sorry for semi-off-topic--just simply couldn't help it.

Yes, I know what you were saying. I'm just saying I'm not too bothered by it, as long as it doesn't herald the start of a trend.

I thought the article was going to mention both of them but be mainly on Starks.

Isn't it great that the team won big time without these two key players having phenomenal games? They both learned something this week and hopefully can improve for the next big game. (and you know how rookies always need to learn something new. Week in and week out.)

I thought the rookie that struggled more Saturday was Shields more so than Starks.

Shields got turned around several times that I caught in the first viewing of the game.

Starks had a solid night IMO.. I was especially impressed with his blitz pickups and blocking.

I actually thought that was who the reference would be about when I opened the thread, but even though he was a little lost on the PI, I still feel he played a pretty damn good game.

I thought the same thing. Shields looked a bit rookie-ish at times, but Starks never did. Very impressive that that was Shields' first penalty of the season. It wasn't much of one either. I think the call was correct because he did a little bit of an arm bar and wasn't really looking at the ball (I'll watch the game again tonight and revise my opinion if necessary), but not a horrible penalty by any means. Any CB is bound to get a few of those during the course of the season.

Starks was much better than the stats would suggest. Stats aren't everything.

I'd like to see a replay of it again too. I felt when I first watched it that the receiver and corner are slapping each others hands away. Maybe there was an armbar that I missed. I did like that he read the receivers eyes and got his hand up in front of the receivers to knock it away. That's how you're coached in that situation. Still I thought it was a horribly soft call.

As for Starks I would like to see his yards after contact stats from the game. Does anyone know where those might be compiled? It felt like he was hit in the backfield on just about every run. As good as the offense was, the offensive line did not play well. If Rodgers didn't have the juking skills of Barry Sanders there would have been a lot more sacks.

No that was flat out pass interference.. first.. he never turned his head once, played the man and made contact. That should draw a flag every time.

Many plays that I recall.. Shields wasn't playing the ball at all.. like he was struggling to stay with them.. playing the man.

Kid has been outstanding this season.. it was a huge game and I worry little about him come this week.

But it is the first time this season while focusing in on him, that he looked like a rookie at times. Pretty remarkable if you ask me..

I think reading anything into Starks this game would be difficult after we jumped out at the end of the 2nd quarter. There were times in the second half where it was obvious McCarthy was going to juice the clock and shorten the game and Atlanta loaded the box.

I saw several plays where we were in full backfield ( I call RB/FB a full backfield) and Atlanta had at least 8 players up at the LOS. Now had it been a tighter game Rodgers would have pulled the run but the purpose was to get another 45 seconds off the clock.

I understand a little better what McCarthy means when he says he doesn't look so much at the yards per carry as he does the number of carries.

Obviously Starks did well enough that Rodgers was lethal on just about every play action play they ran. Atlanta certainly wasn't ignoring the possible run there and Rodgers usually always ended up with the time to complete a pass.

I was actually surprised by the PI on Shields because I thought that face guarding wasn't illegal in the NFL. It looked to me like a well played ball by Shields as he didn't really hinder the WR ability to catch the ball in any way outside of hitting the ball with this own hand (even though he wasn't looking at it). I don't think you have to "have your head turned" in the NFL.

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
