Agreed but I liken Aaron to a young Joe monatana With a stronger arm than a right handed Steve young.
Believe it or not..Montana actually was more athletic than Young and was a better elusive scrambler.
Bill walsh touted that a 26 year old Montana actually ran a 4.5 40 yard dash and could do 360 dunks. He just was never the same after Jim Burt of the giants Broke his back. He became less mobile.

Aarons more accurate than young was. Aaron at 26 Reminds me of the 26 year old montana with a lot More zip on his ball.

Also I saw a legends game just las year and Montana Still shows uncanny accuracy.

Favre had the strongest arm I have ever seen. Nobody [i]could throw it like Favre. I recently watched the 1995 game between the Pack and Bears. In my view, Favre's arm is stronger than Rodgers. In fact, Favre's play in 94-98 was as good as a run a QB ever had. The problem was Favre fell off. After Mike Holmgren left, Favre was still great, but nowhere near as good as he was with Holmgren, which is saying something about the level of his play at that time.

I think Rodgers' ability to create things on the move is pretty amazing. There isn't a player better in the league at rolling out of the pocket and making plays. Actually, Rodgers is more elusive at evading rushers than anyone in the league, which is including Mike Vick. Vick just runs away, but Rodgers does it and keeps his eyes down field. That is more impressive in my assessment. I think Rodgers is better than Favre at creating with his legs and he is more accurate in my view as well. Rodgers is a right-handed Steve Young, but he throws a nicer ball though.

It is too early to tell where he might go. This could be the start of Rodgers streak of elite play. Because right now, Rodgers is one of four, five, maybe six elite QBs in the game.

Cal2GreenBay,

You can stop hitting return when you're typing your paragraphs. The software will automatically do that for you. You just need to hit return for a new paragraph, not in the middle of a sentence. 🙂

2 years ago I said Rodgers will make Favre an answer to a trivia question. Who is that pretty good QB between Starr and Rodgers?

Favre will end up being that guy who was before Rodgers when all is said and done.

At this point in their careers...

Is Rodgers a better QB than Favre?

IMO...surprisingly, I say yes.

You can't compare the two statistically because of the different eras - plus didn't Favre have better than stats than Rodgers at 40? Because if we are basing it on statistics, then Big Ben, Matt Schuab, Phillip Rivers, etc. are leaps and bounds better than Favre too. If you think Rodgers is physically and mentally a better QB, then thats different and thats subjective. They are probably physically around the same, I'd say Favre has a stronger arm but Rodgers is more athletic. Rodgers is more advanced than Favre in terms of reading defenses at Favre's 3rd year v. Rodgers 3rd year. Part of that is that this really is Rodgers 6th year in the league.

Btw, why is there always a need for someone to say Rodgers is better than Favre or Favre should be forgotten if Rodgers does something good? We're lucky to get this back to back QB thing, look at the Lions or Vikings or Browns or Broncos or Dolphins, etc.

Plus I don't know if everyone is younger and didn't see Favre in his 20's but he dominated the league in 1995, 96 and 97. Can't we just say they are both really good and we're lucky and end it?

You can't be serious about the Starr thing? Rodgers who knows, may be he will have a better career than Favre - on this pace, he definitely will.

But I've never understood this whole Starr thing. He was great, he was HOF worthy. I wasn't alive back then, so I can't say I've seen all of his games and lived through his legacy but I am a history buff, so I watch old timer games and read a lot about football history. So someone who's watched both would for sure be in a better position to comment but I'll still throw in my two cents.

I'm not a big fan of comparing stats in different eras. So you to look at Starr in his era. His best years probably were 64 and 66.

1. Frank Ryan* CLE 29
2. Sonny Jurgensen* WAS 28
3. Don Meredith* DAL 24
4. Johnny Unitas* BAL 22
5. Fran Tarkenton MIN 17
6. John Brodie SFO 16
7. Bart Starr*+ GNB 14

1. Frank Ryan* CLE 25
2. Sonny Jurgensen* WAS 24
3. Fran Tarkenton* MIN 22
4. Charley Johnson STL 21
5. Johnny Unitas*+ BAL 19
6. Milt Plum DET 18
7. Bart Starr GNB 15

If anything Fran Tarkenton is probably a better comparison to Favre.

Starr was an accurate passer that could manage a game but Favre is not some after thought behind Starr. I think you'd be hard pressed to find people that think Starr was way better than Favre.

Uh, have you ever looked at Big Ben's stats?

By the way, you can only take the "different eras" argument so far. The vast majority of Favre's career has been in post-rule-changes era, or what Cold Hard Football Facts calls "the Live Ball Era." Sure, there have been a few tweaks since his career started (mainly in terms of protecting the quarterback physically), but the vast majority of rule changes favoring offenses -- allowing offensive lines to block with arms extended, tighter enforcement of pass interference downfield, etc. -- were all implemented long before Favre entered the league.
