B-Jack has two roles, 1. pick up blitzers on third down, 2. after he chips a lb get open and make a play.

he has the ability to make a play coming out of the backfield catching a screen.

does he deserve a thread for it?

That was certainly a great play by Jackson, but I want to give Scott Wells some props. He did a great job of getting out in front, and he made the key block on one of the defenders and then Sitton came and cleaned it up.

I think Wells is having a great year, and I like him being our Center. But Colledge on the other hand, I can't say the same. I noticed him getting beat a few times in this game.

I'm likely being overly complimentary, but I was impressed by how he (and Colledge/Sitton) made something out of what appeared to be nothing.

Scott Wells was the true blocking champion of this play, at least from the Oline, once colledge got out running he didn't get any contact. I guess you could give him credit for getting in the way of defenders though.

So was Colledge supposed to abandon Jackson and run halfway across the field to find a guy to block?

He was perfect on that play, even though he didn't need to block anyone. He helped make amends for the holding penalty that he committed a play or two earlier.

As for Jackson, he's been doing this for four years now, and it is a very valuable role. Nonstop makes an interesting point, though: Maybe Starks could play that role next year. If he can, then Jackson might become expendable. But I would prefer to have all three of them.

He's a very good third down back. Has been for some time. People who want him cut aren't paying attention to his full body of work.

Watch the play again and you'll see Jones made the play. Illegally. Pretty big hold hard to see from that angle but watch the nfl.com highlight video I'm too tired to link to for the 20th time.

I find it a bit humorous.. last season late people wanted Jackson to replace Grant full time.. not a year later they want him cut and the next back on the roster to be the lead dog.

Jackson excells in blitz pickups and is a threat out of the backfield.. value until they get a guy with better open field skills to take that role.

Starks is getting a clean release right now, because everyone in the stadium is assuming when he comes in it is a run.. they let him release because he hasn't proven he can fill that role yet.

Personally.. I want Grant has the 15-20 carries a game.. Starks as a breather back.. and a true 3rd down back with elusive open field skills as the third option.. but until that guy hits the roster.. Jackson is the poor mans version.

Unless you have a better option, Jackson should stay. I don't think the likes of Lumpkin, Wynn etc could replace him. Grant, Starks and Jackson would make a pretty capable stable of backs.

Saw this on NFL Network this morning and it clearly was a hold, but wasn't called because the guy being held stopped running. I remember watching the replay during the game and wondering why in the world Jones was standing there looking around and now it's clear (was looking to make sure there was no flag).

every NFL RB should be expected to know how to follow blockers.....

that play proved nothing that can't be easily replaced.
