James Starks and Brandon Jackson, who's had more opportunities to have a solid game?

Starks is the only RB I've seen this year who consistently attacked the hole. In these BS scheme, that's what we need. Not a dancer, not a prancer, someone who's gonna make one cut and boogie. That's what Ryan Grant does and it's worked for him.

I believe Korey Hall is out, so maybe we'll get to see Starks this week.

Yes, Starks is 1 for 2 which is a much higher ratio than BJack. I really want to see Starks in there for exactly the reason you mentioned.

I'm guessing he's a project for next season. Brandon's the best bet in protections and the screen game, and Nance is delivering more on ST. They've got time to see what Starks has to offer and how he might fit in the backfield w/ Grant, and now isn't really the time for experimentation w/ your lineup.

He may see the field yet this season/post-season, but I don't see it being anywhere he could make a crucial mistake.

You cant blame (not being active) on anybody, Starks said, thats myself, because if I was doing what I was supposed to, broke some runs it doesnt matter how many people are getting in, great running backs make people miss and break tackles, do good things. I put that on my shoulders. Why I havent been playing, thats totally on me.

In other words, he's saying the right things. Fact is, Starks has produced everytime he's gotten the opportunity. He's a much more natural AND much more talented runner than anyone we've got on the roster. Not to mention a more talented reciever. Did I also mention he's faster than any of the other guys at his position?

He has not produced everytime he has had an opportunity, that is the fact.

Starks only played 2 games. The sample is unfortunately too small to use.

Against the Niners, he had 18 attempts for 73 yards and 2 kick returns for 25 yards. Against the Lions, he had 6 attempts for 8 yards and no kick returns. He didn't get a single reception in either game.

Brandon Jackson broke 18 carries 3 times this year. Against the Eagles, he had 18 rushes for 63 yards and 2 catches for 12 yards. Against the Pats, he had 22 carries for 99 yards and 1 reception for 3 yards. Against the Giants, he had 18 rushes for 39 yards and 1 reception for 10 yards.

Dmitri Nance never had more than 12 carries in a game. He had 12 against the Vikings and got a whopping 37 yards. He never cracked more than 37 yards and his highest game average was 3.56 yards a carry.

I know this is a very small sample, but I'd love to see Starks given a chance to get 20 carries in a game because against the Niners, he looked a little bit like Grant. He hit the line at full speed and fought for that extra yard.

I wonder if he did something to piss off the coaches; something we don't know about. Maybe he looked lazy in practice. I've never known a coach who didn't flip out when someone did that.

My son's coach actually allowed players to be lazy in practice and made everyone else do extra runs except for the lazy person. Needless to say, that lazy person got his ass kicked and wasn't lazy anymore. Better to throw up than let your fellow teammates do extra runs.

By the way, Kuhn consistently gets thrown in there for small numbers of carries but I'm still convinced that Mike McCarthy wants Kuhn 100% in the Playoffs and wouldn't be surprised if he gets 20+ carries in one of the Playoff games. It's the only rational explanation of why Kuhn doesn't get more carries.

Zombie-

Bad practice habits, at least according to the JSOnline. I posted an earlier article in this thread where McCarthy said he needed to improve his practice during the week. The below article was from today:

A hard lesson learned

Starks says bad practice habits have kept him out

Green Bay James Starks is no Allen Iverson. But when it comes to practice, something has been missing.

Therefore, so has his playing time.

Starks, a rookie running back for the Green Bay Packers, had a memorable season-debut against San Francisco on Dec. 5. Since then, Starks has faded from the picture and been inactive the past two games.

Turns out, it's largely because Green Bay's coaching staff doesn't like Starks' practice habits.

"I just haven't been practicing well," said Starks, a sixth-round draft pick from Buffalo. "It's something I've just got to get used to.

"Coming from college to the NFL has been a lot different. Practice tempo is a lot different. Now, coaches harp on that and that's something I have to get better at."

Starks, who missed the first 11 games of the year due to a hamstring injury, rushed for 73 yards on 18 carries against the 49ers. And for one afternoon, anyhow, Starks looked like he could help solve the Packers' rushing woes.

The following week in Detroit, though, Starks had just six carries for eight yards. The last two games, the Packers kept Dimitri Nance active instead of Starks.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said the decision came down to special teams. But Starks said he thought it had more to do with his performance in practice.

"As far as tempo, I need to pick it up and be more consistent," Starks said. "I haven't been doing that all the time and haven't always practiced very good. Things happen. The best players pick themselves up. I'm just going to keep practicing and keep getting better."

Starks figures to get a chance to impress his bosses again this week. With fullback Korey Hall out (knee), Starks likely will be on the 45-man game-day roster.

"James is just a young player," McCarthy said. "He missed a lot of practice time. Works hard. Obviously gifted, and we have him working with both the special teams and he's been getting some offensive reps."

Urgh. Is that a personality flaw? If so, could get him off the team in '11.

Or he could have reminded everyone of Randy Moss who got through life because of his talent and never had the work ethic to excel, gave up on plays he should have made, etc.

I don't know. I'm not a Packers coach. Just throwing that out there.
