I guess the implication behind nerdmann's posts is the question: Why do Mike McCarthy's teams always seem to get their backs to the wall and require herculean efforts to surmount the obstacles into which they've cornered themselves?

then why didn't HE say that?
jfc people - if you don't like mccarthy - say it & give your reasons why.

don't make up multiple threads just to complain about him ad infinitum.

Because as superfans the perception is always that we should be doing better. The backs-against-the-wall is as much a psychological manifestation as it is a real thing. How often do you hear fans say things like, "This shit ALWAYS happens to us!" or "We NEVER seem to put teams away!" or "That's the type of thing that ONLY ever happens to us!"

Attempting to draw conclusions from such a small sample size of games is kinda silly to me. Just as you word it NSD -- McCarthy's teams "always seem" to dig deep holes. If you drop back and looked at the evidence -- and I'm not suggesting I have -- I think you'd find we're not different from most teams in the ebb and flow of the season.

One thing I do know -- it's better to lose close games than get blown out. We just put a 45-17 lickin' on a pretty solid team. That pretty solid teams' fans are no doubt having a "Why does Coughlin always screw us?" convo on their respective forums. It's what fans do.

But for now I'll be happy that -- among other things -- our coach isn't on the losing side of a blowout.

Compare to the defense. The defense always gets the most out of its players. It is greater than the sum of it's parts. This is not so with the offense. Most of the injuries are on the defensive side, but it's always the offense that underperforms. Maybe they're getting into a late season groove.
And most of those "close" game should never have been close to begin with.

I say that all the time. I articulate what I am saying repeatedly. However, some people seem to cling to the established administration no matter what. This happened when Sherman was finally shitcanned too. It was only afterward that most of the people on forums admitted that Sherman sucked shit. Then they acted like they were saying that all along.

Frankly, I did not even find a trace of any hint that this was his implication.

He asks if anyone feels comfortable with McCarthy, then cites previous week's example of outplaying a team but still losing. He then reinforces his concern by citing previous examples from this season. He clearly does not even think about previous season's which McCarthy has been around or he would've realized this team comes out ready to play when it absolutely needs to.

Then he goes on to question if anyone feels we'll be competitive in the loss. If anything, he is assuming we will lose, which is quite a big assumption to make, and certainly not warranted by his concern we may outplay the Giants yet not get a win in this "must win" game.

His post is logically incoherent.

The issue you've outlined NSD is a very interesting one, and it certainly worthy of more discussion.

Nerdmann frankly needs to be more explicit if that is what he wanted to throw out to the forum. There is certainly no hint that he is trying to use deeper rhetoric to bring about discussion on a worthwhile issue.

If that was your intent nerdmann, then I do apologize for my first post being so blunt.

However, there is no hint of that I got in your opening post. (And yes, I'm assuming if there was any hint of you raising a deeper issue, I would've gotten it)

Actually, the quote was from MM, Aikman was the one quoting him. In that quote, MM stated that he wanted to take shots downfield, which is one thing that I am against, because it causes the offense to underperform. Today, they had a number of long drives of 8-10 plays, which is what I like, because it shows that we are playing fundamental WCO football, moving the chains via high percentage plays and dominating time of possession, which in turn wears down the opposing defense.

you really ARE a nerd, aren't you? you said aikman quoted mccarthy which infers you were stating what aikman said. while it may not be the exact definition of quoting, it's so damn close, i still say you quoted aikman so...there! 😃
