My anger towards the MN legislature has nothing to do with how it's to be paid for. They pushed off talks with the Vikings about a new stadium for 10 years. The fact that they haven't been interested in at least throwing mud on the wall is what pisses me off.

To answer your question though.. I'm more than willing personally to pay additional taxes if it means the Vikes stay. I understand why a lot of Minnesotans don't want to make that sacrifice (especially the ones not interested in the sports scene), and I don't blame them for standing up for their beliefs. But as a fan of both no taxes and the Vikings, I'm willing to take one for the team to ensure my favorite NFL team stays in MN. The way I look at it is this: My taxes went towards a huge ass library in downtown Minneapolis and a remodel of the Guthrie Theater, and neither one of those have I visited since the construction's been done. And chances are I'll never go to either of them. I'm sure there's dozens upon dozens of other state-paid for 'attractions' in the Twin Cities I helped pay for that I don't use as well. So if given the choice, I'm more than willing to pay a little more in taxes for a stadium. I mean, at least I'll get to enjoy the fruits of my 'labor'.

I figured you'd be more than happy to pay for a new stadium...my comment was more a reference to the reality and that wherever it may be coming from, there has appeared to be some resistance to taxes paying for a new multi million dollar stadium in Minny.

I'd can't help but think that this incident could be a tipping point for the team one way or another...either pushing them to L.A, or be the wake up call for the need for a new stadium.

Of course that's what's wrong with the whole thing. The function of the state is not what it can do for you (any more than it is what it can do for the people in the arts.)

If you want to create a charity and call it the "Minnesota Sports Scene" and donate to it so your favorite team can wear purple spandex in air conditioning year round, that's fine. But taxes force others to pay for it.

Two wrongs don't make a right. It just means we're all corrupt.

When you support taxation because "it pays for something for me", you are part of the problem.

Not part of the solution.

Whatever that something might be.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Great post, except for the source. Who's admittedly pro-Anarchy.

Actually what should be done is whatever percentage of the stadium the taxpayer's of Minnesota end up paying, that should be their percentage of ticket sales and concessions of that building for a ten year period. Call it loan, but the coffers in the Minnesota State legislature get replenished and they would probably make money, which could then be spent on tax refunds back to the citizens [in theory].
