of course you cannot stop peterson from hitting the hole and gain big yardage, but the d played more than solid against him.
he was 9 for 44 one time of the game and if i remember correctly that included one for 25 and one for 11. that makes 7 for 8 for the other carries, which is more than decent for the packers d.
i highly doubt they would have won this game with keeping peterson in the majority of the gameplan. they would have looked better, perhaps, but it wouldn't have been enough to win, for sure.
