But I have to ask: would they have given him that second chance if he didn't have that star power. Would they all be as convinced of his "reformed nature" if he weren't a star? I think not.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I think the fact that he is a very talented, high profile player actually made it a more difficult decision for the league to reinstate him. A lesser player may have flown under the radar.

i said he paid his debt to society but if you honestly think i should feel sorry for this guy, it's just not gonna happen. free pass - hell yes! dude is making money, has a job, & is being set up as a hero by some people. all because he can play a damn game. how many other felons can say that? how many other felons can't catch a break, aren't even given the slightest chance, & are turned away from job after job? and how many of those felons return to prison because they weren't afforded an opportunity?

"4PackGirl" wrote:

So your reasoning is that because all of these other felons are treated unfairly, Michael Vick should be treated unfairly as well. Beautiful.

I don't think Vick is a hero, and I doubt that many people do. I would not have minded in the least if he had been banned for life from the NFL. But he was given the opportunity to play again, and he's said and done all of the right things so far. Is he truly reformed, deep down in his heart? There's no way for us to know that. All we can do is judge him by his actions. You are who you pretend to be.

I think you're honestly freaking nuts! I never once ever said you should feel sorry for him, never, not even the slightest implication of it.

I wouldn't ever say someone should HONESTLY feel sorry for a person playing a game and banking millions a year. I can try to understand their situation, but never would I feel sorry for them.

The whole role model thing for kids is what pisses me off. If parents did their god damn job, this wouldn't be a damn issue.

When my daughters do something wrong, I never once ever put it on someone else. I take the blame, I figured out what I did wrong, how I can do better.

If a parent notices their kid idolizing someone, they need to step up, check into that person, educate themselves on said person and follow through with educating their child.

I'm so sick of parents pushing blame for their kids mistakes on outside sources they claim to have 'no control' over.

There's a difference between "feisty" and being stubborn. For the record, I'd do both. 🙂

This may ruffle a few feathers, but if you want your kids to look up to athletes as role models, that's a parenting fail.

Athletes as role models? Really? What's next, telling your daughters they need to be more like Paris Hilton?

That said, to public record, he never killed another human being..

Yet we have two current players that have been in some form involved in deaths of another human still playing. Ray Lewis and D.Stallworth.. and one that just retired in Leonard Little.

If those players get a second chance.. why not Vick for his actions?

"pack93z" wrote:

You are comparing apples to oranges here. Very few people believe that killing a dog is just as serious as killing another human, but there are huge differences here in terms of intent. Stallworth and Little were guilty of reckless behavior, but it's highly unlikely that they tried to kill those people. With Lewis, we just don't know what happened.

But with Vick, there is no doubt that he killed numerous dogs and treated many other dogs cruelly, and he did it over a period of several years. There was gambling involved too. It was a pattern of criminal behavior, rather than a single incident. That's why he was punished more severely by the law, and that's why a lot of people (including me) thought he could have been punished more severely by the NFL than he was. But they decided that the law had already punished him enough, and it would not do anyone any good to tack on a lengthy suspension. I was skeptical, but so far it looks like they made the right decision.

I settled with Vick (as far as I possibly can) when I learned it had cost him about a hundred million in the long run.

That number might have to be revisted, because he has in fact resurrected a once-dead career.

I will never forget what he did, but once in a while I go to church, and I try and pay attention to what that commie on the pulpit has to say to me. :tongue3:
