He doesn't make a habit of tipping the ball up to the defender anymore, if that's what you mean. I wouldn't say he's "excellent," though. Another thing about Lynch is he's got enough speed to get to the corner.

He has shown an extra gear the past couple games, that's true. If he gets 20+ carries, he could really get into a groove. But you know that ain't going to happen. He's the "third down" back. (And everyone knows we never run on third down. We protect the passer so he can throw deep.)

Really? Got the stats to back it up? This type of horseshit makes me livid. There are a few instances where our QB -- whom I am a big fan of -- has thrown it deep in 3rd and short situations. This, however, is not an indication that the playcall says "Make it rain! Throw it up there!" I'm no expert but I can tell that your understanding of offense is remedial at best. You understand that a play that has four or five receiving options is going to have a few that go downfield?

Hey, I'm an armchair QB. I know how to fix our offensive woes. Throw slants and screens (so we can stroke our mid-90s Holmgren boner) and give B-Jack the ball 23 times a game. That's it. Put it in a pot, let it simmer for 3 hours, and serve. Football can't possibly be more complicated than that. I mean, I play Madden -- I know what's up. [...rage...]

The best thing here is that everyone was harping on McCarthy a year ago for calling draws on 3rd down. With how good Rodgers was, no one ever wanted to see another run on 3rd down.

I still think it is ridiculous to claim that our offense forces it downfield all the time. That's simply not true. There have also been a ton of gripes about the number of carries in recent games. When you play against the Vikes and Jets I wouldn't imagine any team would tote the rock with regularity (yeah, yeah, New England had some success, but Minnie's greatest vulnerability is still their pass defense). Now, go back to the Washington game and I'll agree -- I too would have liked to see Green Bay run it more.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

Let's make it interesting. This is for third and short only. I say the run to pass ratio will be 3-1. There's gotta be a couple quick handoffs to kuhn in there!

I think that it's on the coach to have a team ready to show up and play for an entire 60. Let's look at the defense. For some reason, they show up regularly. They play above their potential as individuals. Hell, even guys like Bishop are solid. Sanders never got that out of him. Capers makes guys like Shields and Peprah look good.
I also think the offense would execute better if they were running more "high percentage" plays. Throwing deep is lower percentage, which is why I don't like that. I would also like to burn more clock on offense to keep our defense fresh. We've had alot of injuries on the defensive side.
As far as running the ball, my main point here is that it's not really worth it to give up a 3rd for a guy you're only gonna use 8-10 times a game. But yeah, I would like to see Jackson get more carries. Do you agree that he probably won't?

My apologies for starting this Marshawn Lynch thread. Honestly, I had no idea it would turn into a bitch session about play calling. Oh wait a minute, pretty much every thread that makes it to page two on this site turns into a bitch session about play calling.

Touche. The guy does have a pretty bad track record. It's too bad that some very talented individuals decide to jeopardize their career like that.

Lynch is from the ghetto.

Some folks never leave their ghetto mentality behind, even when they've physically left the ghetto. Lynch seems to be one of them. I'm glad we don't have him, even though he's physically very talented (I saw him play at Cal).

Forsett is averaging 4.4 in Seattle and Lynch is 3.1 ypc. That tells me it is Lynch and not the blocking.

Last year is Buffalo when everyone but Lynch averaged 4.5 and he only got 3.7 tells me again, it is Lynch, not the blocking.

Lynch has 9 yards receiving in Seattle for the 4 games he was in. Jackson has 20 some catches for about 130 yards.

Why do we need a guy like Lynch?

Because it's the sexy thing to do since we've lost all games since Ryan Grant was injured. Now our season is over, but at least we still have our draft pick.
