Football is weird that way; where mid 30s is over the hill.

What age is too old for sitting in an office cubicle?

Big fan of Harris. Best of luck wherever he ends up. Just a shame he didn't stay on the Pack long enough to get a Ring.

Not in the least. Do some reading on his injury. It was horrific.

I realize that it was bad for an ACL injury, I'm not arguing that at all. What I am arguing, or maybe just pointing out for the matter of tranquility, is that the NFL has seen enough severe head and neck injuries that an ACL injury, regardless of the severity, is nothing when compared. Even a lot of concussions are worse. The absolute worst case scenerio is that the guy gets a total knee arthrosis, and there are great results from that, especially in Harris' demographic. Anything with the spine and brain completely trumps the knee.

Dude, I clearly said one of the worst KNEE injuries in the history of the league. It wasn't just an ACL tear -- he tore multiple ligaments. That's why I said do some reading on the injury.

Why am I the only one who's happy to see him go? I never thought he'd step foot on the field this year (do a search of my posts -- I've been saying this the entire offseason), and the last thing I wanted was for him to take up a valuable roster spot. Maybe the Packers can bring him in for a look next year, after he's a year and a half removed from one of the most severe injuries this league has ever seen. I see no way he would have made it through the entire season without reaggravating that knee.

I highly doubt any other team will pick him up, but if one does, I'm willing to bet a week's wages he never starts.

You're not alone NON, I'm a heartless prick just like you. This is a problem with Packer fans, always reaching for Nostalgia. Al's way to old to make a comeback from that injury. He made a great effort and we supported him end of story. Shields has made him expendable as Bulaga has made Tauscher expendable.

We have a place to honor Al and Tausch, it's called the Packer Hall of Fame.

"Nonstopdrivel" wrote:

I don't know how heartless I am but I too last year said that I did not think he would be able to come back from the injury.
Nevertheless I am stunned at this news and saddened by it.

Thanks for all the great memories Al. You will always be a Packer to me.

I don't think Harris will get claimed off waivers, but he will sign somewhere once he clears them. I would love if he signed somewhere outside of the division, but it's hard to think if someone like Minnesota would come calling who badly needs the secondary help, that he wouldn't consider signing there.

"peteralan71" wrote:

Let's hope they'll sign him, so we can pick on him when we play the Vikes.

Harris will fit in just great in Minnesota's scheme.

"Rockmolder" wrote:

Did Harris take a crap in your cereal bowl or something? Let's pick on him? He's not some douchebag that we never really liked and want to make him look bad. More than anything, we should just hope that he doesn't go to the Vikings. Not because we don't want to play against him, but because we don't EVER want our kind to become a Viking.

Shame on you.

Lol. I didn't mean it like that.

I love the guy. Great heart. Never gives up. Sounds like a great teammate, as well.

It's just that, if you're going to put him in Minnesota's scheme, he'll be victimized. And yes, if they pick him up, I'd love for Aaron to go after him. Any single one of our receivers would have a field day against him.

As AADP pointed out, Harris doesn't make much sense for the Vikes' scheme. They're not exclusively a Cover 2 defense, but it's their bread and butter. Physically Al seems like a good fit -- decent size and above average strength -- but he's been a man coverage guy his whole career.

I agree with Millertime and Musccy -- I think part of this move is to allow Harris to play elsewhere, even though they don't think he's good enough at this point to remain on the team. It's the "nice" thing to do for Harris.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

The Packers might be releasing Harris, but all this news stems only from Harris and his feeling at this point.

Probably getting frustrated, but I would rather IR a Lee and add Harris for the stretch run. But I don't see him at practice every day.

Again.. at this point I think it is a release of frustration for Harris.. per comment, We haven't made a decision on Al yet.

I'm surprised by this news and, like many others, disappointed to see him go. I always liked him, thought he worked hard and played hard. I'm not saying that this isn't the right move because Williams and Shields have really been playing well (will Underwood and Lee ever show anything?). Just disappointed to see what sounds like a stand-up guy go.

That being said I definitely think we'll see him play this year and my money is on the vikings also. Even more disappointed now.

In regard to his knee injury however, and our spatting aside, I have looked into this injury and I do agree that it was a horrific knee injury, which could very well make him a very replaceable player, as unfortunate as that is. I love the effort and years that he gave to us, and wish him the best of luck. It's just sad that it has come to this.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
