I bet that Harris was able to talk with management and talk about his future. He doesn't really have a current shot at starter and maybe they gave him the option as backing up our secondary or looking elsewhere. Given the many great years he gave to us, running the man to man press coverage, I think Green Bay chose to release him so he can be a starter elsewhere.

Whatever the actual reason, I wish him the best of luck.

Playing Nickel or Dime is something Al has said he'd be fine doing if that's what it took to extend his playing career. Al is smart and knows he's in his middle 30's which is old for a football player. (yes, he does know his age, don't question that fact!)

Football is weird that way; where mid 30s is over the hill.

What age is too old for sitting in an office cubicle?

36 and getting older / injured CB ... IMO right business move but ... we should of kept him for loyalty reasons.

I think the reason we cut him was loyalty. Harris is a proud man. He wants to prove he can still play. The Packers don't think he can. He probably wanted to be cut, so he could try to play with another team this year. By putting him on IR, we would have prevented him from trying to play at all this year.

2 reasons come to mind:
1) Special Teams
2) If you IR him, there is no way he plays this year

#1 was discussed, #2 is a better option for Al since he'd have the option to play this year, and potentially for the packers - there's a chance he'd clear waivers with his contract/injury, which means a chance he could be available if a roster spot opens due to injuries (small chance, but one none the less).

I thought his skills were waning last year, but still a hard worker and by all accounts great locker room guy. For sentimental reasons, this is a real downer!

Well, the injury was really serious. A while ago there was a video posted on here of him working hard to play. Now I guess it was all for nothing. But do you really think he won't get picked up by another team? I would think he probably would, but I don't really know.

What a privilege it is to have someone on these boards who has been to all of the packer practices to personally evaluate his rehab, drills, progression from injury, speed, and his effectiveness relative to all of the other younger, healthier, faster players who are doubling up with special teams duties.

Could you please inform of us of all the other mis-steps that Ted is making since you are privy to insider information, apparently having witnessed day-to-day operations?
