And he actually seems to know how to punt it out of bounds. What a novel concept.

Lots of punts downed inside the 20 too.

I would have never expected this type of performance from our punter. What a pleasant surprise.

outstanding game. Let's hope he has finally gotten comfortable.

And I hope he never has to punt again. (All drives end in scores.)

Ever since an angered coach Mike McCarthy signaled that punter Tim Masthay was on thin ice with his job by tersely saying "he needs to do a better job," the first-year player has responded with big performances the last two games. Masthay earned a game ball after Sunday's victory, in which he had a season-high eight punts for a gross average of 44 yards and a personal-best net average of 41.5 yards with a long of 55. Masthay placed five kicks inside the 20, equaling his season total from the previous seven games, and the Jets didn't have any return yards. Combined with his two-punt effort in the win over the Vikings in the preceding game, Masthay hiked his season net average by more than two yards, from 33.4 to 35.6.

Damn that's a good game.

Just going through the punts he made today.

5 of the 8 were officially inside the 20.

1 of the other 3 rolled in the endzone after bouncing at the 1 yard line, but Bush had a chance to make a play on it and couldn't.

Another 1 of the 3 actually hit Swain on the shin, and was downed before it rolled inside the 20. It was down at the 22.

So, basically, he got 5 punts inside the 20. He came very close two other times to having the punt downed inside the 20 again.

While he officially had 5, he could have realistically had 7 of his 8 punts downed Inside the 20. Phenomenal performance.

I can't recall the last time a punter of ours had such a tremendous game.

From PFT this morning,

coach Mike McCarthy praised him for making the difference in the field position battle: "He was huge for us today. Tim is inexperienced in this league, but you can see him getting better and better. I feel he has improved as the games have gone on. There is no lack of talent. He has very good leg strength and very good fundamentals."

He probably has good pad level too!

Consider this. With our opponents field position held in check with good kicking and special teams coverage, our defense kept their offense scoreless. Excellent punting sure helps!
