Removing Helmets on the Field During Play -- no player may remove his helmet while on the playing field. Doing so will result in a 15-yard Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty. Exceptions are during timeouts and between quarters. (The NFL has done this in an effort to "reduce taunting and overexuberant celebrations" and also "in the name of safety.

I'm just saying it was obvious and should have been 15 yds. You stoop to calling me names because I answered the guys question so be it

Little side note NFL says that the ref was wrong by overturning the vikes td.

"[Unsportsmanlike conduct] includes ... removal of his helmet by a player in the field of play during a celebration or during a confrontation with a game official or any other player." - 12-3-1-h

Here is the reasoning for the rule being that way - "Allows players to remove their helmets on the field without penalty in most situations."

The rule is basically there just to limit helmet removing celebrations.

They banned removal of the helmet because of that? Favre running down the field, helmet in hand, was one of the coolest touchdown celebrations in history.

Didn't Emmit Smith used to take his helmet off after TDs? I think he did and then some other players started to copy it, so that's why they made the rule. It became a type of planned celebration, which the league has never liked.

The Favre celebration was cool because it looked like it was spontaneous, and it probably was. (A few years ago, I would not have even questioned this, but I don't trust Favre anymore.)

dfosterf (11h) : I think it would be great to have someone like Tom Grossi or Andy Herman on the Board of Directors so he/they could inform us
dfosterf (11h) : Fair enough, WPR. Thing is, I have been a long time advocate to at least have some inkling of the dynamics within the board.
wpr (21h) : 1st world owners/stockholders problems dfosterf.
Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : I thought it used to be we voted for the whatever they called the 45, and then they voted for the seven, and then they voted for Mark Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : @SharpFootball WR Diontae Johnson just admitted he refused to enter a game in 41° weather last year in Baltimore because he felt “ice cold”
