Before this season started he was called a question mark. And well he has 0 sacks on the season so far to my knowledge and is not creating any pressure. I don't know how hes been playing in coverage or against the run but he's gonna have to get a bit of a pass rush one on one or OLines will just role over to Clays side.

His pressure/hit on Favre caused the first interception.

He has been a huge disappointment.

Last year, his stats projected out to something like 8 sacks and something like 30 QB pressures had he played the entire year as a starter.

Those are decent numbers, and with more attention being paid to Clay those numbers would not be all that difficult to get.

But he has been thoroughly under-whelming. He missed two games, I believe, but up until last week his play had been lacking. In fact, outside of containing the edge last week, he has not done anything of note this season.

He was a pleasant surprise last year, but this year he really is playing like a 7th round draft pick. If we had any decent option besides him, I'd have to think he would have been challenged pretty seriously for his position.

I have not focused on him during the games. How many times has he been asked to rush the QB this year? I didn't think it was very often. It is pretty had to get a sack if you are dropping back into pass coverage on half or more of the plays.

He is 6th in overall tackles and 3rd in assists. It seems to me he is doing exactly what the coaches are asking him to do.

He just still doesn't get there on a consistent basis.

And having Clay mainly play against RTs, while Jones takes on the LTs doesn't help, either.

He was undersized, but quite fast, last year. He ran by RTs on some plays and disengaged a little easier, it seemed. LTs are usually of a different caliber.

We just don't have anyone to really compliment Matthews at OLB on the roster right now. Just like everyone predicted and was hammering on.

I'll be picking out my Jerry Hughes for this year.

I didn't notice him all year long ... meaning his playing decent but isn't playing spectacular either.

This is surely an important point.

We need to see the stats on the number of drop backs.

With Matthews a pass rushing phenom you don't want to waste him in coverage.

How many times do we rush 5 guys on a regular basis? Not often it seems. And that 5th guy is often a blitzing corner, safety or ILB.

Jones missed pretty much the entire off season plus two regular season games. CM3 was able to jump in and get rolling. But Jones was a 7th rounder not an elite bluechip 1st round talent.

No doubt he'll get competition this summer. OLB could be a draft day target (although we said that last year).

If you look at just the sacks from Jones.. you are going to be disappointed.

But if you look at his overall game.. especially setting the edge and holding it well.. then you start to see the complete picture on this kid.

Go back, look at his college ball.. he was a run support/coverage backer.. with little pass rush experience. He is green as they come in that element.. and he is not Clay.. he doesn't possess that same array of speed and power...

He has some work to do in the pass rush, he has a shoulder injury that I believe is still in a harness.. yet he isn't a liability in the run or coverage.

Hopefully his pass rush improves.. or they figure a rotation of Zombo and Jones to start to apply more pressure from that side and improve in the facet.

But the kid is far from awful.
