The only thing dumber than telling people not to talk about something is failing to spell the word "dumb" correctly while doing it.

So yes, I'm going to "worrie" if I damn well want to, thank you very much.

I'd plus Kevin up for that crack but I'm out of jism at the moment. It'll have to wait a few.

Pack - I addressed this, although in another post.

When you have a pass happy team, your RBs can be mediocre and they still get plenty of yards just because the DC is hell bent on stopping the pass. Look at Air Coryell for example. His RBs always had fat averages. Walsh's Niners were the same way.

Heck, last year's Saints were the same way. Neither of those 3 RBs are really good. They just caught you by surprise when they did a running play and voila, 5 yards.

Let's not forget in our pass happy Lynn Dickey years, our RBs averaged near 5 ypc, and you couldn't convince me they were good.

Also, wouldn't you love to be a Colts RB? Everyone and their Grandma is geared up to stop Peyton Manning and they completely forget you exist.

So, pass first. And watch Kuhn and Jackson get easy yards, well, Kuhn, not Jackson. Jackson will hesitate at the line then wonder why everyone's grabbing him.

Coryell never won a championship.
SF had Craig James.
Saints had the threat of Bush.
Dickey only got to te playoffs once.
Adai can break one for more than 3 or 5 yards.
I have yet to see any easy yards by Jackson or Kuhn. Jackson misses too many holes and Kuhn is no threat, if the defese is completely fooled he'll probably only gain 10 yards. I like both players but not as a featured back.

Just saying...

Craig James? I grew up watching the Niners and forgot who that was. Nobody's scared of Bush, except as a pass catcher. Let's be realistic. P Manning hasn't always had Addai and the year they won the SB, their running game sucked.

I'm not worried about our lack of running game. It's not about burying my head in the sand. Rather, historically, it's no longer important. In the 1960s and 1970s, I'd be freaking out. Today, no.

Agreed about our backs. Jackson can't see a hole if his life depended on it and my Grandma can catch Kuhn from behind. Although Kuhn pounds yards, and I like that. Roughs up Ds.

Actually, if I recall correctly, SF once won a super bowl with, of all people, Ricky Patton at HB.

How many super bowl rings are there between the top 5 running backs from last year?

Answer: None

How many rings do the top 5 QBs from last year have between them?

Answer: Six.
(If you rank by completions)
(Four if you go by yards)

Can you win without a running game.. sure can.

Can you win without a passing game.. sure can.. Ravens did it.

People point at the Colts.. what do the Colts do well behind that passing game.. they run the ball effectively when called upon.. Edge, Addai, Brown all have solid statistics in yards per attempt.. But the Colts call enough runs and draws to keep the defense off balance, slowing down the pass rush and limiting blitzing thus helping the offensive line.

The key is they don't forget to balance the game plan and run effectively when dialed up...

I am not saying to become a totally balanced offense.. 50/50 so to speak.. but you have to be able to run effectively out of your passing sets to at least pause the pass rush because they have to read for it.

Currently, look at the play calling.. we have to run out of the I to be effective at all.. no draws, no single back runs with effectiveness.. hell no screens to slow the pass rush down.

MM is partially to blame because he leaves the run so quickly.. but he leaves it quickly because we struggle with it.. like it or not.. he has to keep it involved in the offense to take that pressure off the line, thus calming Rodgers a bit more.. and letting the offense become more dynamic and allowing the deeper routes to develop.. which in turn will pull the backer back more in coverage.. and open up the short passing game up even more.

That is what I am saying.. we have to be able to run the ball effectively.. and we have to have MM stick with it more to truly let this dynamic offense hit its stride and start hammering the scoreboard.. thus putting more pressure on the opposing offenses to keep up.. thus creating even more opportunities because the their offenses have to take some chances against our defense because they will feel the pressure to keep up.

You give away dictating to the defense when you and they know you are going to drop back and pass.. they the defense then can start dictating to you via altering your protection schemes and it snowballs from their on the offensive line.

It isn't magic.. it isn't mind boggling.. you have to able to run effectively to keep the play calling open and making the defense chase you.
