I thought the refs were fairly fair, there were several holding calls not called, but I seen at least one that went in our favor. The only gripe I have about the officiating was the Morgan pass interference. I've only seen the play twice, so I could very well be misspeaking here.

I thought Morgan was looking for the ball and by rule has an equal shot at getting the ball as does the WR... and with that I thought it was kind of a ticky tact call that shouldn't be called that late in the game because it could have changed the outcome of the game.

My complaint with the officiating isn't with the refs in this game per se. The pass interference rules are just a complete joke. Alot of the rules right now are. Generally, I think referees do routinely alter the outcome of games. And they may arguably have influenced this one, but it should never even have been close. We beat ourselves.

Most of the calls were legit it's just the timing of them. How many big plays did we have negated by a penalty?

- A touchdown to Finley (holding call -> led to a blocked FG)
- A Collins interception (PI call on Burnett -> led to game-winning FG)
- A Barnett interception (Roughing the Passer on Matthews -> can't remember what this led to)

That's all I can remember. But in a close game ONE of these plays going the other way could have resulted in a win.

I feel that Burnett mugged the WR. Just my opinion. Hate to say it, but I think that was a good call. I thought the reffing was pretty good last night. Two ticky-tacky calls I didn't agree with were Tauscher's holding that negated the TD. Ticky-tacky doesn't mean it's a bad call though, just that it was borderline. The other was the blow to Rodgers' head that got called for roughing the passer. Again, that was ticky-tacky, and probably still a valid call, but just too nit-picky for my preferences. I like that it went our way, but I would've been pissed if we got called for that close of a hit on Cutler, so I don't really like us getting a call like that either.

It may have been a good call, I'm just going off the two times I seen it. It looked like the WR had his hands on him as much as he did the WR. To me, that's a non call, but I don't know.

I agree with Bozz...it may have been both ways, but Morgan certainly got in his fair share of the mugging, and a ref will usually side with the O in that case.

Others:
-early in game bears jumped and our left T/G reacted - should have been on the d
-they blew play dead on woodson's strip of forte in 1st Q - that was a fumble.
-very iffy holding call against Taush on Finley TD

With that said, the packers 'earned' the rest of the calls. The refs did a good job, and did not appreciably affect the outcome.

I agree. We did deserve to get called.

But the pass interference rules are so much slanted towards the offense that a QB can literally throw the ball up in the air and pray for a pass interference call.

Cutler did it once yesterday. He got his wish. The INT got negated and he got 40+ yards out of it.

In my opinion, a jump ball should be fair game. If both players have to leave their feet to have any chance to get it, so be it . . . let them battle it out. If it ends up an interception, that's on the quarterback for being so irresponsible with the ball.

It irks me no end that the rules encourage quarterbacks to play for penalties. Penalties should result from misbehavior on the part of defensive players, not tactics on the part of the offense designed to put the defense in compromising positions.

It's like bouncing the basketball off the defender to make it go out of bounds. Yeah, it's technically legal, but it's tacky.

agreed, esp. fades in the corner of the endzone, the db has so little chance...it may have been jets-fins that I was watching where it was the same thing. QB chucks it, hopes for PI, and they got a 1st and 1 at the goal.

Watch the hail mary the Packers threw at the end of the half. You're going to realistically tell me that no one committed interference on that? Pass interference is a joke. Let the guys play the game. Unless a penalty seriously alters the outcome of a play it really shouldn't be called. I don't care whether Burnett or Bennet were engaged, that ball was CLEARLY going to be picked by Collins either way.

I just hate how much of an impact refs have on a game. Football is my favorite sport but with the rule complications and the bevy of flags nowadays I'm starting to lose my interest.

Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.

wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
