I'm thinking completely logically and I STILL would have preferred for us to let them score. I would rather take the CHANCE of having almost a minute to score rather than the chance of Gould missing such a short kick.

That's my opinion. You happen to think that it would be absolutely impossible for us to score in under a minute mostly due to penalties. That's fine and I can understand how one might think that, but I just don't agree. I think the probability of us scoring was greater than a missed kick. Call it rising to the moment, an exception, whatever, but I would take those chances with our offense.

I'm not even very emotional about the game. If we played SLIGHTLY better, we would have easily won. We didn't and we lost. Fine. I'm confident that the Packers won't continue to play that bad and that we will make the playoffs.

Jim Rome can't believe Mike McCarthy didn't let the Bears score. Placing the ball in the hands of a dynamic offense with a minute remaining trumps fielding a kickoff with 4 seconds remaining every single time.

I've said many times in the past three years that I do not trust this coaching staff in the big games. For whatever reason, this team seems to lose its head whenever they're featured in an overhyped game: they look like a bunch of Al Harris clones out there. And our coaches seem to lock up at critical moments. I don't care if this team wins 11 games from here on out; I will not trust McCarthy when it really matters, and I will not forgive him for his glaring lapses in judgment last night.

I wish that -- just once -- Mike McCarthy would admit he made a wrong decision. That would increase my respect for him. "That was not the decision we made" is a line that is growing old fast.

I guess I'm missing something here.

Let's get this figured out.

Okay, say Coach doesn't do the challenge, we have an extra time out. We let the Bears walk in, providing of course they don't kneel down as we've seen players do in the past, (Westbrook). They make the extra point.

Score 17 - 24 with let's say 1:00 left and we have a time out or two.

We let the ball go out of the endzone for a touchback, putting us on the 20.

Down to :56

We drive all the way down the field, score, tie the game. No flags, everything somehow magically lined up for us.

OVERTIME.

We lose the toss ... ONO's we kick to a good returning team with an offense that seemed to play with us at the end.

Cutler throws a pick that's ran back for a touchdown. We win the game.

That's a pseudo best case scenario.

That is the best for the fans, but is that the best for the team? Sure, you guys can play down right awful and don't deserve to win, but win anyhow ... and when coach is barking bout penalties the team can say 'but coach we had 17 flags dropped and STILL won'. 18 flags if you want to say we'd still have done the lateral stuff at the end of the game.

Even if we tie the game, I don't see us winning it in overtime. We couldn't do anything but shoot ourselves in the foot the 2nd half, they gave no evidence they'd turn it around in over time.

Any chance is better than no chance - and this:

9-R.Gould kicks 42 yards from CHI 30 to GB 28. 87-J.Nelson to GB 19 for -9 yards. Lateral to 21-C.Woodson to GB 14 for -5 yards. Lateral to 80-D.Driver to GB 14 for no gain. 80-D.Driver pass short right to 89-J.Jones to GB 19 for 5 yards. FUMBLES, recovered by GB-29-D.Martin at GB 16. 29-D.Martin to GB 11 for -5 yards. Lateral to 85-G.Jennings to GB 6 for -5 yards. Lateral to 38-T.Williams to GB 31 for 25 yards. 38-T.Williams pass incomplete short right to 85-G.Jennings. PENALTY on GB-80-D.Driver, Illegal Forward Pass, 0 yards, enforced at GB 14. Penalty on GB-38-T.Williams, Illegal Forward Pass, declined.

had no chance at all.

McCarthy definitely made the wrong call there.

99.5% of the logic in me says let them score.

.5 says, MAYBE something will go wrong-the snap, a strip-who knows?

Here's the rub.

My heart says 100% NO.

Fuck them Bears. Stop 'em on the goal line. Do not quit. Stuff their ass, show some pride.

My heart is stupid, but I don't care. Pride runs deep. The game was lost anyway.

All that said let 'em score are right, but as I said, I don't care.

I just personally would prefer a tie game going into overtime then a loss at the end of regulation. Anything to give our team a chance to win. Despite the shitty game, I still had faith in our offense (mostly Rodger's, Finley, Jennings, and Driver). I cannot accept letting them burn the clock just because the chance of scoring is low. One still has to try. If it fails, we're in the same situation we're in anyway. If it succeeds, talk about a serious gain in confidence to win the game with under a minute left. When they were on the 2ish yard line, it was pretty obvious to me that they were trying to punch it in. Letting them score doesn't have to be completely obvious. I imagine we could have drove into the HB and essentially push him towards the end zone if that's what it took. Sounds silly I know, but perhaps we would have had a chance, at least one better than the lateral play.

Oh well, it's obviously over now and there's nothing I can do about. I just didn't agree with the call.

On to the Lions.

We haven't returned a kickoff for a TD in like 2 years. We haven't blocked a kick or extra point in who knows how long. Gould has never missed a kick under 30 yards in his career. He is 179/180 in his career on extra points.

Chicago was dumb enough to try an score a TD instead of kneeling and kicking a FG with the third most accurate kicker in NFL history. We should have let them score.

Rodgers was tearing up that Bears secondary. You got to give your best player a chance to win the game. McCarthy didn't, which is why he should bear most of the blame for this loss.

I obviously don't know this anymore than you know it won't happen. I must just have more confidence in our offense in such a situation than you do. I would take the chance of another holding penalty on a game winning drive opposed to hoping for a missed kick that close every game of the year.

Assuming you give the Packers about a 10% chance to tie it and win it in overtime, that's a freakin' 20 times better chance than to hope that one of the most accurate kickers in the league misses a fg that's even shorter than an extra point.

i stay with it. horrible clock management all the way starting with the second ridicolous challenge in a row.
