Coach Mike McCarthy said he didn't consider letting the Bears score at the end to conserve time. "I felt they missed a field goal in the game," he said. "There was talk about it, but it was not the decision we made."

They missed a 49 yarder with an extremely accurate kicker who isn't known to even attempt many long FGs so lets bank on him missing an extra point... that's not even borderline intelligent.

Complete lapse of judgment in my opinion. Sure, we shouldn't have been in that situation to begin with, but we COULD have had a chance to tie to the score again.

I'm astonished to read people thinking we should have let them score. I could understand that line of thinking if we weren't shooting ourselves in the foot with penalties. Under one minute, each penalties runs off 10 seconds or burns a time out. Consider that at all?

We would have lost by 7 instead of 3 if we let them score. The only difference is, if we let them score we get a few more yards on offense and another penalty or two.

Face it, letting them score was NOT the right choice and would NOT have mattered.

Be angry, tell me how I'm wrong, but when you think rationally and actually think a little, you'll realize we had no chance.

UNLESS, we miraculously stopped catching flags which I do not know if you watched the game, but that didn't seem likely to happen.

I'd agree with the 'let them score' theory ... if we actually were doing well on offense and not holding everything in sight.

How many times did we score a touchdown in the entire game? I believe three, one of which was called back. Each of those drives had flags too and I believe a flag under :60 also is a run off of 10 seconds or loss of time out.

If you saw MMs press conference on ESPN, you would be even more pissed at Fred Flinstone. On why he challenged the fumble he stated " The play happened right in front of me and I saw his leg was in the air close to out of bounds, I was hoping the ref would see his leg hit" Now is that a smart head coach or what? The play happened right in front of him and he knew it was a fumble, but lets challenge and hope the ref sees something he didn't. I am so sick of MM it's not funny.

Now for the not letting them score thing. Is he fricken insane or did he put money on the Bears to win? Remember the Super Bowl loss to Denver when Holmgren actually told his defense to let the Broncos score so we could try and tie. But Not MM we will bank on him missing a kick that could be partially blocked and still make it.

From what I saw last night reminded me so much of the 2008 season, stupid penalties and poor coaching. To be totally honest I don't see us as a Super Bowl winning caliber team. Look back so far, We get torched by Vick and good thing they started Kolb to give us a good lead so we can hang on for dear life and then we look liked crap in the 1st half against Buffalo before we played good ball.

We need secondary help and help at running back and that I think falls back onto TT. I can see a very disappointing season coming. But looking on the brighter side Rodgers and Finley showed that they are elite players in the game today.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

TWO-MINUTE WARNING/10-SECOND RUNOFF: The requirement that the offense has to be behind in the score or the score has to be tied for a 10-second clock runoff to be exercised against the offense for an excess timeout with two minutes to go in the first half or in the game has been eliminated. Now a 10-second runoff will take place no matter what the game situation. Any possible advantage for the offense (e.g., the old rule would not require a 10-second runoff if it were ahead) has been eliminated. The defense has the option to decline a 10-second runoff (which will give it more time should it get the ball back).

I thought on a false start there was a run off also, but i couldn't find it. I know they run time off for intentional grounding but thats because its a sack and the clocked was stopped.

Your definition of miraculous is peculiar, Kevin. You would regard it as more miraculous that the team could avoid penalties for a single drive than a kicker miss a field goal that short? On the other hand, you do have somewhat of a point in that the only penalty-free drives the Packers put up were the last two drives of the first half, which ended in a punt and an interception respectively.
