I think the lack of a screen game is more alarming than not running the ball. What cheeseheads123 is saying is if the defender has to respect the run, he can't just just tee off on the QB. It's a fair point, but again the data says you don't need a running game to win in today's NFL.

However, I would argue that a screen game would achieve what 123 is saying and it's probably easier to do. Where has the screen gone? They need to get some of that going. I thought for sure we'd see three or four throughout the game to stop the Bears from just attacking. They didn't run one. I don't get that.

Yeah, basically i was referring to this game and this game only. The running game "could" have made a huge difference but we don't exactly know that. I am just considering the what ifs and assumptions. Here is an example. The two drives where we had to settle for field goals we got called for 3 holding penalties. 2 were on first downs and 1 was on third down that nullified a touchdown. I think we can agree that these holding penalties slowed down us down. Now say we had a running game. We could be running the ball on the first downs instead of passing and putting us in a hole. Don't mind me I tend to think about all the what ifs after losses thats all.

Let's not forget that they played against one of the best run defenses last night. They should drafte one of the Rodgers brothers from Oregon St. next year then if Grant gets hurt again it won't be a problem anymore.

keep thinking like this, year after year, and see where we end up...

year after year...

Yeah, we do not want to end up like the Saints! They had little-known Pierre Thomas at RB.

Look where it led them....

I certainly dread we'll follow them down the same path.

Wait you need a running game to win the Superbowl?

It's pretty obvious that the penalties lost the game. Special teams burned us again. While we may not need a running game to win, it sure would help.It would make us a better team.

I think because they caused most of the pressure with four down linemen. Peppers was all over the place and with him, Urlacher and Briggs out there who are good sideline to sideline along with some pretty solid tackling CB's I don't see it. If they were pouring LB's and CB's on the rush the screen would be available.

I saw one all out blitz when we were way down on our own end and Rodgers threw the quick sideline to Jones for a decent gain. It's pretty risky calling a screen from your own 5 though.

Actually, with us bringing 5 and the OLB's coming all out I think the screen is something we are more vulnerable to than the Bears.

I just want to clarify and make sure everyone knows that the lack of the running game is not so much at the runningback position...but how pathetic the offensive line can be at run blocking. Just saying.

If we had a running game we would of saw this happen again.

I liked it better when we had Ryan Grant.

I'm hoping, (stretch hope) that Starks comes in and makes us all forget Ryan Grant.
