Oops. Forgot we didn't have a timeout left.

OK, I stand corrected then. Would have rather we kicked the FG.

The 8-second timeout before halftime was "clearly my fault," McCarthy said. "I should have left 3 seconds on the clock." McCarthy said he didn't get the spot of the ball quick enough and didn't have enough time to take the shot (at the end zone) he wanted. He had one in mind.

i love second guessing decisions in an out an out ass whipping.

It wasn't an ass whipping at the time and could have come back and bit them, big time.

I like Mike McCarthy as a coach (same goes with Ted as GM). That doesn't mean I have to agree with everything they do, though.

I know... Im being a dick... its an unfortunate thing i do. sorry.

but my general point is that either Ted or Mike get criticized because they don't do things like people at home would do them on Madden.

you are right. i thought why not go for it too. but then we won 34-14 and realized he is smarter than me.

i didn't second guess his onside kick though. I thought it was agressive, ballsy and smart. If you jump out early on the Colts it takes away their entire game plan and seems to deflate them. They aren't a comeback team and they never play well in a hole. If we recover that kick and score a touchdown... we may have blown them out by 50.

The onside kick caught me by surprise--I thought it was a fantastic call. I also liked the way McCarthy's kept running the ball the last two games even though the yards per carry are a little low. It's kept the other teams offense cooling on the bench and led to some impressive time of possession numbers.

Given the the onside kick and play-calling aggressiveness overall (going for it on 4th and 1, etc), I'd like to see us take a shot instead of just settling for a field goal--I've seen too many games lost where one team drives down the field, stalls out and kicks field goals, and the other team drives down fewer times but finishes off and puts it in the end zone to win (24-7 is a three score game. 20-7 is only a two score game).

wait. wtf was that onside kick after the first score all about? i was outside smoking, standing on a chair looking in and never figured out wtf all that crap was about. all i knew was that we got realllllly lucky.

was that really a mccarthy call? a fucking onside kick????

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

it was a weird situation...i really thought another 7 could have easily appeared on the board. though i would have been content with the easy 3 that never happened. i doubt this thread would really be happening if Crosby didn't miss.

"TwinkieGorilla" wrote:

Actually, the reason I brought it up was it was the second time it happened this year. First time I let it go. And it wasn't the miss--before Crosby made the kick I was wondering why they weren't taking a shot.

It was 3rd down and we had just used our last time out. Kicking there was the only choice.

"TOPackerFan" wrote:

This is the crux of it right here. Running another play, you risk tacking a sack, muffed centre QB exchange (been more than one of those this year), INT, fumble, getting tackled in bounds and any number of other bad things. Mike McCarthy did the right thing IMO. The fact that Crosby didn't execute isn't Mike McCarthy's fault.

"joym13" wrote:

You're making my point--that's exactly the message that McCarthy is sending to his offense--I don't trust you enough to take a shot into the end zone.

Given Rodgers ability so far to avoid sacks/interceptions, etc, I think it is a reasonable risk for a coach who goes for it 4th and 1 in his own territory.

It was 3rd down and we had just used our last time out. Kicking there was the only choice. I didn't see any issue with the speed in which they moved down the field. They made the second down play and then called the time out with 9 seconds left - they didn't let 11 seconds run off the clock first. They couldn't spike the ball there, it would have made it 4th and 5, then if you don't convert, you don't even have a chance at a field goal. If it had been second down, or if we had had 2 timeouts left - it would have been a different story. But 3rd down and 1 time out - it was the only option. And like Trom said, the field goal should have been made.

It was 3rd down, so we couldn't spike it, but the clock was running at 17 secs and we still had a time out left. They let 9 secs run off the clock and then called the time out at 8 secs (which I thought was also strange--if you're going to run it down for the final play/kick, why not run it down to around 3).

Yes, it was..........and had Crosby not kicked it bad, we would have had the ball. The Colts had NO idea and were retreating to their blocking lanes. But Crosby kicked it out of bounds and screwed up what would have been a great play.

That's beyond conservative - that's chickenshit. And I hope like hell that's not what was going through McCarthy's mind. Yeah, we were up by 10 points - against maybe the most prolific quick-strike offense in the NFL. That's no time to get conservative. We had, I believe, 11 or 12 seconds? Plenty of time to take a shot at the end zone. If the play's not there you just throw the ball into the stands and then settle for 3 on 4th down.

Oh, and I loved the onside kick.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move

Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
