The 8-second timeout before halftime was "clearly my fault," McCarthy said. "I should have left 3 seconds on the clock." McCarthy said he didn't get the spot of the ball quick enough and didn't have enough time to take the shot (at the end zone) he wanted. He had one in mind.

They made the second down play and then called the time out with 9 seconds left - they didn't let 11 seconds run off the clock first. They couldn't spike the ball there, it would have made it 4th and 5, then if you don't convert, you don't even have a chance at a field goal. If it had been second down, or if we had had 2 timeouts left - it would have been a different story. But 3rd down and 1 time out - it was the only option. And like Trom said, the field goal should have been made.

They let 9 secs run off the clock and then called the time out at 8 secs (which I thought was also strange--if you're going to run it down for the final play/kick, why not run it down to around 3).
