Really after a 34-14 whooping of the Colts we're going to complain about this?

In all reality, Crosby should have made this kick and the block against the Vikings was just something that happen.

I hope this is the biggest complaint we here the rest of the year because the game plan this week was brilliant I thought.

I agree that our game plan was sweet! I was just curious as to why we didn't take a shot at that point in the game. We seemed to be playing aggresively and it would have made sense. Not hating AT ALL on anyone, just seemed like we had the time on the clock to give it a go.

i love second guessing decisions in an out an out ass whipping.

It wasn't an ass whipping at the time and could have come back and bit them, big time.

34-14 . Mike McCarthy > you

I like Mike McCarthy as a coach (same goes with Ted as GM). That doesn't mean I have to agree with everything they do, though.

I know... Im being a dick... its an unfortunate thing i do. sorry.

but my general point is that either Ted or Mike get criticized because they don't do things like people at home would do them on Madden.

you are right. i thought why not go for it too. but then we won 34-14 and realized he is smarter than me.

i didn't second guess his onside kick though. I thought it was agressive, ballsy and smart. If you jump out early on the Colts it takes away their entire game plan and seems to deflate them. They aren't a comeback team and they never play well in a hole. If we recover that kick and score a touchdown... we may have blown them out by 50.

"Packnic" wrote:

I agree with a lot of this, but to say the Colts aren't a comeback team doesn't wash. They've already won two games this year they trailed with 6 minutes left, and they've been associated with rather well known comebacks like the AFC Championship win over the Pats and the Monday Night Miracle against Tampa a few years before that just off the top of my head. I wasn't comfortable with the lead in this game until Rouse sealed it. I didn't find McCarthy's call as surprising as the fact Crosby missed it.

Some of the people in the Live chat need to stop trying to be coaches, and start being fans. Its getting annoying. I don't even participate Live chat much anymore because it infuriates me to no end.

it was a weird situation...i really thought another 7 could have easily appeared on the board. though i would have been content with the easy 3 that never happened. i doubt this thread would really be happening if Crosby didn't miss.

EDIT: also, you know what? stop whining about live chat. every single one of us reserves the right to be emotional about the game. ever been to a bar to watch a game and heard a bunch of folks acting like "ooh! excuse me, kind sir! what a silly call! now i'll eat a chocolate!"

gimme a break and grow some thicker skin.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

I thought they should've taken a shot at the end zone. But McCarthy's conservatism in that situation was more than cancelled out by his decision to go for it on fourth and one IN THEIR OWN TERRITORY. I didn't think they should do that, but it worked. The onside kick attempt was nice too.

I don't think its any coincidence that this is the second time McCarthy sat on the ball to go for the "sure thing" field goal, and both times we missed the fg. Its bad karma from the football gods. Theres no such thing as a "sure" fg. It was a bad call IMO. I'm not "whining" I'm just calling it like I see it. Just because we won big doesn't make it a good call.

Other than that, the game plan was brilliant and executed perfectly by the players.

These people who think coaches are above criticism really do need to grow some thicker skin.

I fear the Colts. I am well aware that they can beat anyone at any given time, and have a HISTORY of scoring lots of points in little amounts of time. Therefore, I'd want to score the most possible points on them to make their comeback even harder.

We have a QB who DOES NOT throw INTs. He's amazing. We have the best WR set in the NFL. Use them. It's as simple as that.

Take one more shot. It doesn't have to go into the end zone. It could be a 10 yard pass. 20 seconds is plenty of time. If you don't get a TD, you get a substantially easier FG.

As for the people who think you can't criticize MM , I really wish I could do a -1 on you. That's what sports boards are for. DEAL WITH IT.

We are all Monday morning coaches. All of us. We do it because we're rabid fans.

As for MM , besides that questionable waste of time before halftime, he did well. I'm so glad he went for that 4th down. That was the aggression I was talking about in another thread, something that I was criticizing MM for earlier in the season for.

It was 3rd down and we had just used our last time out. Kicking there was the only choice. I didn't see any issue with the speed in which they moved down the field. They made the second down play and then called the time out with 9 seconds left - they didn't let 11 seconds run off the clock first. They couldn't spike the ball there, it would have made it 4th and 5, then if you don't convert, you don't even have a chance at a field goal. If it had been second down, or if we had had 2 timeouts left - it would have been a different story. But 3rd down and 1 time out - it was the only option. And like Trom said, the field goal should have been made.

This is the crux of it right here. Running another play, you risk tacking a sack, muffed centre QB exchange (been more than one of those this year), INT, fumble, getting tackled in bounds and any number of other bad things. MM did the right thing IMO. The fact that Crosby didn't execute isn't MM's fault.
