One more halfback who wore #44: LeRoy Kelly of the Browns. That makes three. So maybe Starks knows something about NFL history.

I grew up in the Minnie apple. Chuck Forman and I both wore the same number. It was 44. I thought it was a good number.
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.

OMG...how could I have forgotten Kelly. Maybe the greatest back among those that always get forgotten when "top 10" lists are put together.

Harrell wore 6 at Texas Tech, Peprah wore 26 with us back in 08.

I wish Starks would've changed his number, as well. 44 is a FB number in my mind. And a number for people who crap in laundry baskets.

I don't know if there's a coincidence, but he wore 19 in college, he can't wear that in the pro's as a RB. He wore 25 at the combine, can't wear that cuz of Grant. Maybe he added them up to get his number?

Good thinking. Players will actually do stuff like that sometimes. I wouldn't be surprised if it's true.

By the way, I heard that Brandon Underwood has switched from 33 to 28. It seems like a bad move to me. 33 is a great number, and 28 was ruined for me by Ahmad Carroll, and it was nothing special to begin with. I still remember seeing that big 28 on the back of Carroll's uniform as he chased receivers down the field, grabbing at them like a drowning man.

I do always wonder how much management and how much the players themselves get to say about picking a number.

With FAs, it's pretty obvious, oftenly. They just take in their old number or something close to that. They even try to buy them from guys already on the team.

I do wonder how much of a say a guy like Zombo has in picking his jersey number. You hear about numbers being assigned pretty often for guys like that.
