I'm pleased with the pick-up if he indeed re-signs. As others have alluded to the biggest advantage Wynn has is that he knows the system, he be one of the 45 on the gameday roster immediately. Picking up another free agent/trade would require a bedding in period, which right now with Harrell out and Jenkins injured we could ill afford.

Moreover, if C.J. Wilson has been kept around because of his potential as opposed to his immediate contributions, it's possible that Wynn could move ahead of Wilson. Either way it's a good move for depth.

Those big fellers don't fall from the trees... big fellers with talent that is.

Of course they don't. You can't get them up the tree in the first place. Most of the time the tree just bends over to the ground when you get them big fellers half way up there.

I am ok with Wynn. He may not be a NT but they can always shift Pickett back to that spot when they want to give Raji a breather.

We only dressed 4, Harrell, Pickett, Raji, and Jenkins. Thats why the Harrell and Jenkins injuries were so unfortunate yesterday. Thank god Jenkins was able to return otherwise we would have probably lost that game.

That seems odd.. Why did they do that? I would have 5 dressed if I were them just incase something happens. But then again it prob was thier gameplan because we played nickel a lot because of there passing offense.

Exactly. We played with two D-linemen just about the entire game. Having four players active for a defense that mainly uses two players should be enough insurance. It's just that you don't expect two guys to fall out. It's like that at every position.

GB never did play their base defense.

source  Matthews was the cornerstone of the plan. Capers decided to use exclusively sub packages mostly nickel (with a fifth defensive back) but occasionally dime (with a sixth defensive back) and didnt play a single snap of his base.

source  Inside linebacker A.J. Hawk didnt play a snap on defense because the Packers were in their nickel or dime personnel on every play. Hawk is a starter in the Packers base defense but is replaced by Brandon Chillar in the nickel.

I honestly was kind of hoping for Nate Collins from Virginia, 6-2 / 290. If I'm not mistaken Virginia plays the 3-4 defense and Collins was their Jenkins type guys I thought. He's on the Giants practice squad I believe.

well if i could remember wynn was 277 coming out and wilson is 290 and wilson is stronger than him if im right but ya wilson could be considered a 4-3 end.

Last I saw, Wynn was up to 285. He was drafted to play 3-4 DE, so I assume he has the right body type for it. He just needed to bulk up. He has flashed potential at times, and I was surprised he was cut. Maybe he will play better now that he knows what it's like to be unemployed.

I don't think he can handle all the double teams... I think he's more of a LDE in a 4-3.

With Neal hurt, Jenkins hurt, and Harrel Hurt/Out for the season/Whatever, it makes sense to sign a smaller DE type guy, not a NT, of which we have 2 very good ones. Now, i wouldn't be apposed to bringing in a guy like Toribo(sp?) if he's still available as i feel the overall depth is questionable there, but i just find it really hard to see the need for an NT being higher than a DE.

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.

beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
