Maybe it shows that the Green Bay Packers have one of the deepest rosters in the NFL. Or maybe it's just a meaningless quirk of the waiver wire.

But the Packers had more players picked up off waivers than any other team.

Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel points out that of the players the Packers waived to get down to the 53-man roster limit on Saturday, five were claimed by another team: tight end or linebacker (or 60-minute man) Spencer Havner by the Lions, linebacker Cyril Obiozor by the Cardinals, running back Kregg Lumpkin by the Bucs, nose tackle Anthony Toribio by the Chiefs and center Evan Dietrich-Smith by the Seahawks.

No other team had even four players claimed. The Vikings, Bears, Steelers and Cowboys each had three, while the Jets, Giants, Browns and Dolphins each had two.

This could show we have a lot of depth or we had talented players and let them get away. Hard to say at this point.

On twitter Bedard said he thought it could mean the Packers cut the wrong players. He said he thought Wynn and McDonald wouldn't have been claimed. I'm not saying I agree with him, but I don't watch the Packers train every day like he does (or the coaches).

Problem with putting too much stock in the '5 claimed' stat is that it means the Bears have the joint second strongest roster in the NFL. Which we know is bullshit.

All you have to do is ask yourself whether any of the players released will make a difference in whether or not the Packers are Super Bowl caliber team. I don't think they would, so therefor it's a moot point.

Could you technically say 6 now with Chris Bryan signing with Tampa?

But the queens, cowgirls, and steelers were the other 3 teams w/ 3 picked up, and they're all considered playoff contenders. It doesn't definitively confirm the packers are blessed with depth, but it is an indicator

Just getting the moot part right is worth a plus one in this environment, lol

To everyone else:

It is not a mute point.

Too = also
to= get there, etc.
Two= 2

Core= the base, the internal- core of an apple, etc
Corps= the group, the assemblage...e.g. United States Marine Corps

Not Corp, either.

Non stop impersonation off

I see what you're saying, but the Swains, Flynns and Quarless of the team aren't going to make/break the season, yet I'm still glad they're on the roster because I know they can be reliable/productive players if called upon, and have the potential to continue to develop into more substantial contributors.

But Wynn DID get cut.

Anyway, I think this suggests that the Packers have good depth, but it could just be sort of a random thing. Hard to tell. What's interesting is hearing what various fans think about it. It's like a Rorschach test. If you think Ted Thompson is doing a good job, you probably think it's a sign of roster depth, and if you're skeptical of Ted, you probably think it's meaningless or even a sign that Ted screwed up when he made his cuts.

+1 to porky for correctly using the term "moot point." Almost everybody butchers that one.

Mucky Tundra (20h) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (21h) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (21h) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (21h) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
