KR Jordy, Brandon, Shields
PR Jordy, Tramon, Shields

I think that's how it'll be if we don't pick someone up.

I don't know.

Jordy was pretty decent on kick returns, but Brandon looked better in TC. Jackson is "just" a 2nd string RB, much like Nelson is just a 2nd string WR. I see no reason why they would want to keep Jackson out on KRs if he's the better returner. Even if he does get a little banged up from time to time.

Then with PRs you have the problem that Nelson really isn't that good at them. We just don't have anyone besides Tramon who's a decent at PR. So we're stuck between putting our starting corner out there or an awfully average 2nd string WR.

You cannot put Tramon Williams out there.

No way.

That's just asking for trouble, and you just know that he'd get hurt back there, it's a karma/joss thing.

Our secondary is EXTREMELY shaky as it is, imo---He goes down and we are toast.

Rent a B-52 bomber for the next week and drop footballs out of it to Shields until he shows he can hang on to 'em.

That sounds about right to me. Packers.com can be safely ignored when it comes to stuff like this. It is just a PR site for the team.

I'm not worried about kickoff returners. Whoever you have back there, you are usually going to return the ball to about the 28 yard line. That's the average, and there is little variation from team to team. If you have a guy who's a real threat to break one, that's a plus.

Punt returning is a lot more important though. Punt returners have to make much more difficult catches with defenders bearing down on them, and the difference in average yards gained between the best and worst punt returners is pretty big. I was really banking on Blackmon for that position, because it would not be worth risking Woodson or Williams back there. That's why I'm hoping they pick up a returner in the next couple days.

Jordy is not the answer, I hate to be such a debbie downer but I can't stand watching him dilly dally... The Lions just claimed a guy I was hoping we might look at for returns in Stefan Logan but maybe Ted sees it as less of a problem than I

Right now, you're looking for someone to just secure the football. They have no game breaker at all as a return man. I think Brandon Jackson and Tramon Williams can do that the best.

I checked Brett Swain's stats for pro and college and didn't see any return stats. Still looking though.

"Zero2Cool" wrote:

Does that count preseason returns?

I thought he did it one year in the PS... NFL.com has preseason stats but I don't see return stats on there.

MM and Ted Thompson talk a lot about how important specials teams is. Its all talk though. Their actions speak louder than words.

Special Teams are questioned about often because of the lack of efficiency, leaving Ted and Mike no option but speak about them.

The thing that gets me, is we chop some guys off because they were not as gifted on Special Teams as someone else, yet we still blow goats on Special Teams in almost ever facet possible.

Yeah, as much as I like Thompson and McCarthy overall, it's gotten to the point where I pretty much tune them out when they talk about special teams. It's just a weak area for them, I guess.
