Yeah, you reassured me. Colledge at left tackle was so badass I'm wondering why we even drafted Bulaga.

Pickett is 31, he's played nose tackle his entire FUCKING career. In fact, him playing DE should be a cause for bigger concern than him playing NT.

Colledge was young and developing and it hurts a young players development to move them around a lot.

Two entirely different situations. In that ENTIRE thread you NEVER said why you don't like Pickett backing up Raji, yet all you do is bring it up and complain about it. It's driving me fucking insane.

I may be mistaken but Pickett only started playing NT last year when we switched to a 3-4. The rest of his career he was a DT in a 4-3.

I agree with djcubez. It's no problem for Pickett to play NT if Raji gets hurt, since he played that position all last year (and played it well), and before that he played NT is a 4-3 defense, which was not all that different. The problem with Colledge was that he always struggled at LT. That's obviously not an issue with Pickett at NT.

I'm not sure that needs to be said for the 14th time, but I think we all agreed that Pickett can fill in for Raji.

I'm not thrilled with us depending on Harrell to replace Pickett, but then someone said Neal is the top backup, and I said that made more sense, therefore not a real concern.

But lets keep ... :horse:

NFL has oversimplify there labels.
There are three types of DTs, the NT, UT, DT.

~A NT is a run stopper that is plugging two gaps and systems/teams have one.

~A UT (which often isn't used any more as NFL has simply labeled it DT) is a one gap defender who is suppose to shoot the gaps, and get into the back-flied to get the QB or RB or who ever has the ball back there) The UT is about attack attack attack.

~A DT is a tweener position between NT and UT. As they are one gap players that basically reacting letting the offense guy make the first move instead of attacking and making the first move.

It's like Pat and Kevin Williams are both listed as DT. But really Pat is a 4-3 NT plugging two gaps and Kevin is a 4-3 DT shooting the gap.

Pickett has been a NT plugging two gaps his whole time with Ohio State and the Packers. I'm not totally sure what Pickett did with the Rams... I know I've seen him play some UT with the Rams (which doesn't fit his skills at all) but I've also heard he's played some NT. So I guess different coaches he played in different system which asked him to do different things.

Also Jay Ratliff isn't a NT. I know he has the NT label but he's asked to attack attack and attack and get into the other teams back field. Ratliff is a UT that's why he's got all those sacks unlike all the true NTs.

But this is the first year Pickett is going to be playing a true DT position with the Packers. Other years he was asked to play NT.

BTW 3-4 DEs are UT, DT or NT as well... in different systems they are different things.

In the 3-4 Phillips system like the Patriots, Browns and Cheifs the 3-4 DE are like under sized NTs playing two gap basically trying protect the LBers and let them make all the plays and the DL is just trying to stop the offensive blockers.

In the 3-4 zone blitz systems like the Steelers and Packers the 3-4 DE are DTs. Where they are asked to contain the blockers some and get attack the ball some.

Most 3-4 teams don't use UTs as their DL as they're usually very good pass rushers and not good run stoppers and with only 3 DL you need some run stoppers but some of the more creative Defensive Coordinators like say Rex Ryan do get UT because he wants to get guys in the back field and stop plays before they start and is super aggressive.

Like Zero said, you can only keep 53. So SOMEONE has to go. And if you try to pick up someone, you better be darn sure he will be an upgrade from what you already have, because you will have to CUT someone to make room for the new guy.
And as far as no one willing to trade for our outcasts......if you were a different team, and you wanted someone.......would you give up someone in a trade to get they guy, or wait, knowing you had a real good chance of getting the guy for FREE?
Can't blame the other teams for waiting.

Yeah, the Press Gazette sucks! Since Tom was stolen, they have no one who keeps tabs on current news now.

I read just about everything those guys write, including the chats, and I don't think they hate Ted Thompson at all. I bet there is plenty of negativity toward GMs and coaches in some of the big city newspapers, but I've never seen much of that in Green Bay.

Is it the primary job of scouts to badmouth other team's players?

beast (22m) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (22m) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (24m) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (4h) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (4h) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (4h) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (6h) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (6h) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (6h) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (9h) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (10h) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (17h) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (17h) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (18h) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (18h) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Game not over yet
beast (19h) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (19h) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (19h) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (19h) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (20h) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh

Zero2Cool (21h) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21h) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21h) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21h) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (23h) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.

Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : TD but another failed 2 pt conversion!
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Ravens still alive, but barely

TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Time to make dinner
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Ouch!!!! Dagger for the Eagles
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : DAGGER
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : pass plays
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Seems some of their passes are too deep. Reminds me of MLF as well.
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Oren Burks with a clutch pass break up...I will now light myself on fire
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : a run on 2nd down and 17 from McVay? So that's where MLF gets it from!
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Do or die time for the Rams
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Kicking field goals are impressive
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Oh that might be a backbreaker
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : That's what I thought too, just wasn't sure
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Kicking doesn't make much sense
