Slightly off topic, this is a question that's been plaguing me for a while.

There are only 45 players active on gameday. That allows basically one or two substitutes on the active roster. A few linemen are inactive every game. So what happens if a catastrophe results and you burn through all your substitutes? Can you activate another reserve lineman, as you can with the third QB? Or are you stuck shifting defensive linemen, tight ends, or full backs onto the line?

Most teams have 7 or 8 offensive linemen active for a game. They are purely injury insurance, because most of the time offensive linemen play almost every snap of a game.

But, if you run out of healthy O-linemen, my guess is you would put a solid blocking tight end in the line. It's not that rare, the Chargers did that last year with Manumaleuna.

What makes you guys so optimistic about Newhouse? I don't think I've really heard too much about him either way.
