So I was thinking, nowadays most developed countries seem to be playing pretty nice with each other, so I don't see how we could get another world war.

Who are the current antagonists?

North Korea, maybe one of the middle eastern countries?

Who's going to support them in war? Russians? Chinese? Iran? Would the Russians or Chinese risk losing their tenuous grasp on economic trade over a war supporting say, North Korea?

I can't see the East Asians supporting a Middle East fight either.

So really, the only thing I could see happening is that one of the antagonists launches a bunch of nukes at strategic targets then get obliterated by the rest of the world.

Thoughts?

Eng - There will be a 3 year war between China, India, and Pakistan over water. They all have nukes. I wonder how it will happen, if they agree not to use the nukes. But what happens if one breaks the agreement?

Interesting times we live in.

N Korea won't be starting a war. Long Duk Dong is crazy, but not stupid.

The Iranian people are smart (genetically). They'll eventually overthrow the current regime without help from us. The worst thing we can do is take sides and screw it all up.

Hey now, North Korea's soccer coach claimed he recieved instructions directly from Kim Jong-Il via an invisble cellphone (how he could read messages from that I have no idea). If he can invent that, I'm sure he can invent something that will easily win him any war.

N. Korea is run by a nut job. He is capable of ANYTHING. Iran is too.
People like that don't THINK.
I bet alot of people didn't think Adolph Hitler would try to do the things he did either.
Rational people sometimes have trouble believeing the kind of stuff a nut case might try to do.

There is a HUGE difference between Hitler and Iran/N. Korea. Germany at the time could have conquered Europe. They fucked up royally.

If you study military history, you'd be like "wtf?" Some of the things Hitler did were downright stupid. He should have knocked Britain out of the war early and he was too late attacking Russia. Those are the two main ones but there are several other huge mistakes he made.

N Korea can't conquer anyone. They've had such bad famines recently that they had cannibalism. Yes, cannibalism, because there was nothing to eat.

Iran was stuck in a war with Iraq. They're not that strong.

Calling N Korea and Iran parts of the Axis of Evil will get you votes, but if you do your research, you'll see how silly being scared of them is. N Korea's military is a joke. Let's not forget that Iran is on the verge of a revolution.

The Israelis are gonna bomb Iran at the end of this winter or next sping.

They absolutelty need bombing, your president is a complete friggin' moron, and we (the world) will have INCREDIBLY BAD grief as a result.

Mark it. I quit DOD. You friggin' morons that put this clown in office will now witness the incredibly sad result. Mark that too.

So very few of you know anything.

For this we will all pay. The sadness is profound.

I didn't vote for anyone in Iran. Oh, you mean Obamoid.

Didn't vote for him either. So quit blaming me, you Marine whiner. :)

Sorry...just trying to get you to smile, Foster. It is depressing to think of all the things that might go wrong whose probabilities have become greater, perhaps substantially so, thanks to some lazy-ass decisionmaking by electorates that should know better by now.

But, to go back the OP's question. I think the place where WWIII might start is not one of today's usual suspects. It'll be some place Americans in general never think about.

Yes, I know. Americans never think about much of anywhere except themselves. But we do talk about places like Israel, Iran/Iraq, North Korea. I'm thinking of places that are completely off our radar.

My money would be on Central Asia: all the "stans" we can't even spell, like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgystan ... People talk about how Gulf I and Gulf II were all about oil and energy. They have no idea where energy demand is going to go in the next 25-50 years as the pinch of the economic takeoff into modern growth of China, India, et al starts to take off. And America sits captured by the sillies who want to emulate the Dutch and their windmills (sorry, Rock).

In the next 25-50, there is going to be huge, positively huge demand for oil and natural gas. And there's this amazingly huge, largely untapped, supply of both sitting there beneath all the anarchy.

Think Genghis Khan II. With weapons of mass destruction thrown in.

Not WWIII. WW-cubed.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

ya lets see - iran a sponsor for terrorists is building nuclear reactors with russian help and they are going to come online shortly.

terrorist suitcase nuke bombs either israel or the us or britain ... we retaliate then it all kicks off starting in the mideast and escalates elsewhere ...

tell you the truth thou - I partly dont blame the iranians developing nukes; we are at their doorstep and bush did call them a 'axis of evil'.

and we all know why russia is helping them - to f$%^ with the US
be like if we helped the georgian republic develope nukes.

The U.S. will never directly fight China or Russia, and if we do that's pretty much the end of the world as we know it. The big threat is with these countries sucking up to countries that are hostile to us and eventually using them as proxies to attack us. Russia's a bit too friendly with Iran, China's been using NK as a buffer for years. We've got Israel.

dfosterf (26-Jun) : I think it would be great to have someone like Tom Grossi or Andy Herman on the Board of Directors so he/they could inform us
dfosterf (26-Jun) : Fair enough, WPR. Thing is, I have been a long time advocate to at least have some inkling of the dynamics within the board.
wpr (26-Jun) : 1st world owners/stockholders problems dfosterf.
Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : I thought it used to be we voted for the whatever they called the 45, and then they voted for the seven, and then they voted for Mark Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
