Damn Rathman just might be my type of coach.. dropped the hammer on a kid, tested his manhood and possibly cut the pretender from the players...

Maybe some scathing detail will emerge.. but this smells of a kid that didn't have the heart and makeup to become a player in this league.

No bullshit coaching.. love it.

Glen Coffee retires
Posted by Mike Florio on August 13, 2010 2:41 PM ET
Well, we now have an explanation for Glen Coffee's mysterious absence from training camp.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, Coffee has retired.

Per Maiocco, Coffee exits the game after drawing the ire of position coach Tom Rathman by getting blown up by Mike Balogun on a blitz.

A third-round pick in 2009 out of Alabama, Coffee had 83 carries for 226 yards in 14 appearances as a rookie, with two starts.

The 49ers are left with Frank Gore, Michael Robinson, and Anthony Dixon at running back. We've got a feeling that they'll be making a move to replace Coffee, soon.

The team will be able to recover the balance of his $828,000 signing bonus on a four-year deal.

It works out to $621,000.

Wtf? So this was the reason for his absence. Seriously, the coach gets on your face for blowing a blitz pickup in fucking training camp and you QUIT? What a pussy.
This is a placeholder

Or maybe he won the lottery and decided to tell his boss go to hell?

Maybe Coffee pulled the rip cord on the slide and made off with a 12 of swill.. 😉

I heard something where he might go into the ministry.
It bums me out, cause i have his autograph. I pulled it from a pack of football cards last year.

Hey, maybe he'll go on to be the next Billy Graham....in which case that football card will prove extra special.

Coffee says he won't reconsider: "I've told Christ it's time to go"
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 14, 2010 12:55 PM ET

When Brett Favre told his teammates he was retiring a few weeks back, a slew of text messages and calls from the Vikings organization caused him to reconsider.

49ers running back Glen Coffee has heard the same pleas since he shockingly retired on Friday, but he sounds unmoved. In an interview with Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, Coffee talks about his decision to walk away.

"Actually when I look back I feel I never should have entered the draft in the first place," Coffee said. "Football was no longer my dream. I found Christ in college. It changed my views on everything. But I still was a football player because it was expected of me, it was something I did all my life. I was basically wasting the [49ers'] time."
Coffee will re-enroll at Alabama to get his degree, then intends to pursue a master's degree. He said he forced football, but that Christ told him to walk away a long time ago. He finally listened and won't look back.

"No, man. I've already told Christ it's time to go. I've already rung the bell. That's not going to happen."

Coffee made a difficult decision Friday, but it doesn't sound like he'll vacillate like Favre. We wish him all the best, and hope he finds what he's looking for in his next stage of life.

Takes guts to do that. You KNOW there will be those saying how stupid he is, what a "holy roller" he is.
But bringing even ONE person to Christ will be worth more to him when he goes to heaven then all the riches he would get here.
Yeah......i know..........i'm a "stupid holy roller!" LOL!
