I remember seeing him run last year in some of the 49ners games and thought he was a pretty good back. Would of been happy to have him on our team.

gl to him

Wtf? So this was the reason for his absence. Seriously, the coach gets on your face for blowing a blitz pickup in fucking training camp and you QUIT? What a pussy.

I was going to post that article (that Zero posted) because this is not at all why he retired. This is an amazing sacrifice from a guy that could have had a decent future in the NFL. But I'm with Cheesey his missions will be much more beneficial than anytyhing he could do on the playing field

Keep in mind that post was made before the real reason for his retirement came...

I'm not a devout christian but if he wants to do something else, go for it.

Takes guts to do that. You KNOW there will be those saying how stupid he is, what a "holy roller" he is.
But bringing even ONE person to Christ will be worth more to him when he goes to heaven then all the riches he would get here.
Yeah......i know..........i'm a "stupid holy roller!" LOL!

How can you judge where Coffee is supposed to have his ministry? Sounds to me like he knew he never was supposed to be in the NFL in the first place.
Maybe it was never where he was supposed to be.
Reggie felt lead to be in the NFL, and that was where he preached from.
Coffee must have a different path that he is supposed to take.
Just because he had the talent, doesn't mean that's where he's supposed to be. he has to do what God leads him to do.
Sounds to me like he knows that, and is doing so.

Everyone is called differently. God doesn't have a scorecard counting how many you bring to faith. God has a way he wants you to minister -- and sometimes he wants you to throw away the obvious way.

Maybe God wants Coffee to help with those who get turned off by famous jock witnesses.

And even if it were about the numbers, how do we know that Coffee won't bring more people in if he follows a way different than Reggie's? Billy Graham probably helped bring as many people to faith as anyone since the apostle Paul. Yet his fame came AFTER, not before.
