RedSox - 2 of the past 4 SB winners had mediocre Ds. The '06 Colts had the 23rd ranked D and last year's Saints had the 20th ranked D in terms of points allowed (which is by far the most important stat).

It used to be D wins championships. Now it's heading towards a powerhouse O and a D that can get takeaways at crucial moments. Does that latter description sound familiar? Practically describes us to a T, except our D let us down against Kurt Warner. One crucial INT would have won that game for us. It didn't happen.

With the exception of '07, recent SB wins have featured elite QBs and I pretty much guarantee the SB winner this year will feature one of the NFL's elite QBs - Rodgers, Brees, Favre, Brady, Manning, Rivers, Kurt Warner, with an asterisk for Romo.

Romo is elite in regular season but barfs in the Playoffs. I'm still waiting for this to change. It may never happen or it may happen this year.

So am I discouraged? No. We are one of the teams who will win the SB and both conferences will feature one of the QBs I mentioned above. We got as much shot as anyone to win it all.

(Warner is now retired but I won't rule him out in '10 if a Playoff caliber team's QB went down for the season).

Dakota - I only watched the game once. I'm not challenging you, I'm just asking. 20 points? The only points I remember our O costing us was the fumble returned for the TD.

We did lose one more fumble and another INT. Did those get returned to our red zone?

Only one turn over directly led to points. The other two put the Cardinals in favorable position to score. The lost fumbles are what hurt us the most. The interception still gave us a fighting chance.

How is Kolb a good test? Kolb is a huge question mark. You must have meant our defensive backfield is a good test for Kolb!

From a simple numerical standpoint, yes, however, they attempted a FG late in the game which would have left them one point short, so they would have been gunning for a TD instead and who's to say we'd have stopped them?

So, no a FG on one of those two drives doesn't mean we win.

While I agree about those two turnovers, I do not concede my argument. They still gave up 500+ yards to a team that is 14th in the league in yards gained. And the Cardinals didn't evne have a possession in OT, so that might have even shot up even more.

They could not stop the Cards, to me, thats alarming. Even on the last drive, it was only a missed FG taht even sent it into OT. If the Cards had the motivation and time, they would have scored a TD there too.

If you have a defense that plays like that in a playoff game, I think thats a big problem. Its tough to win a Super Bowl relying solely on turnovers but giving up a lot of yards and points. I know the Saints sort of did that. But I'd rather just know that the D is going to be fine.

Once again, I hope I am wrong but count me as a non-believer in this D based on the AZ game. It may have been a fluke, no doubt, I hope it was.

The Saints sort of did that? That was the Saints' bread and butter on D because they definitely couldn't stop you from moving the ball. Their D's saving grace was forcing a turnover.

They won the Super Bowl by being super aggressive on O (because they knew their D couldn't stop s***) and praying for takeaways.
