For the league to suspend him a year I believe he had to have 2 prior offenses if I recall correctly. This is form an article I read a while ago and it's in regard to the CBA. So accordingly, this is NOT the first offense and they do not have to disclose any prior league offenses.

He may have had some issues with the league, but I'm pretty sure this is his first legal infraction. Ok, so he's suspended for a year. But if he keeps his head clean for the next year and gets the charges drop, God-dell better let him back into the league with ease.

1) With this diversion Jolly has not pleaded guilty and has not been convicted. If he stays out of trouble no criminal record exists.

2) With no further incidents, reintstatement is likely considering Vick and Adam Jones got reinstated. He better pass every drug test.

3) Jolly has some free time so he ought to do a lot of charity work for a year to help his chances.

I) Of course the big thing is that without a public trial we will not know the full extent of Johnny Jolly's offenses.

II) Do the Packers want to risk having a player who is down to his last strike?

I remain optimistic he will be back until Ted can replace him with someone better.

Do we have the full details on what actually got Jolly banished for a year?

Apparently not. I've heard it said that there are confidentiality issues around this stuff, but I'm not sure why. When other NFL players have been suspended, we've been given an explanation.

When the one-year suspension came down, I was thinking, "They better have some real dirt on this guy, or I'm going to be angry." And now we find out that, after two years of screwing around by the legal system, in which the authorities acted like they were trying to convict Al Capone, all he has to do is go into a diversion program. I'm not impressed. But on the other hand, it looks like there is hope for Jolly to come back next year, and that's the most important thing.

Yeah I'm pretty disappointed because I don't think we'll ever get the full details on why Jolly got a year... I mean we got the details on all the other suspensions why not this one? Something seems seriously fishy and out of place...

Also disappointed the Houston DA dragged this out so long and bought new machines and trained people on them, just to make a deal with a two time convict to try Jolly on a he said / he said case, just to let Jolly go if he stays clean for a year...

If he's guilty of all those things they claimed then forget the plea and try to put his butt in jail... if he's not guilty then stop trying him for things he didn't do...

I think where there is a lot of smoke there is usually a fire and there was a lot of smoke so Jolly probably did some illegal things so try him for those, but I think the only reason they're letting him plea is because they don't have a solid case on him and since he's an NFL player the DA is trying to get some bigger names or bigger cases so they look better...

Man, we are really missing something here. I wish everything would come out.

But he's an idiot, and deserves whatever he gets.

I'm certainly not TRYING to be a "told you so" type guy here, but to those that actually thought there was a legitimate risk of Jolly serving multiple years in prison, some even saying 20 + years . . . what were you smoking?? =)

Having been through similar procedures within the legal system, I knew Jolly wouldn't be in a ton of trouble. There are a number of different programs for first time offenders that allow a "second chance" if you will to clean their name, and rightfully so.

However, I'm sure Jolly will have a series of responsibilities as a part of this agreement. Probably something like a year of supervised probation, drug tests, drug programs, community service, etc.

I'm hoping the guy turns things around because he can be a solid player in this league. Best of luck to you, Jolly.

Whatever he gets? I don't agree. Yes, if he committed a crime he should be punished accordingly for it. But for one thing, I don't think he deserved to be left hanging for two years before his case was resolved. He could've had this whole thing behind him by now.

Wasn't Jolly's lawyer the one postponing it?

The prior offenses had onthing to do with the legal system, or we would have known about it. They violated the CBA. We will never know what happened unless Jolly decides to tell us. Or unless someone leaks it, but the NFL has much better security than our government and there would be lawsuits if leaked.

The NFL has very good investigators. I remember years ago reading a great article about them. It was in one of the major magazines. Part of it was how the NFL, as a courtesy, told the baseball commissioner's office about Denny McClain's problems 2 years before it came out. Baseball chose to ignore it and the rest is history.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?
