In Green Bay, there are multiple reasons for smiling today. For starters, former Packers quarterback Brett Favre has caught the Vikings with their pants on the ground by retiring in early August, at a time when no one saw it coming. (Even if he plays, Favre at a minimum is messing with Minnesota the way that he did with the Packers for several years.)

Now, defensive lineman Johnny Jolly finally has resolved drug charges that have hovered over him for a couple of years.

Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Jolly has entered a diversion program, which essentially means that he's pleading guilty and that if he stays out of trouble for a year, the charge will be expunged.

Jolly was charged with possession of codeine, the primary ingredient in the concoction known as "Lean," "Purple Drank," "Sizzurp," and/or the "Flaming Moe."

Of course, it doesn't mean much to the 2010 Packers. Jolly already has been suspended for at least a year, and the latest case could make it much more difficult, if not impossible, for Jolly to be reinstated.

Jolly needs to move to somewhere in Minnesota.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

Well good for him. His career is still possibly over though.

I don't understand why he couldn't be re-instated. Can someone please explain this to me? His first charge (to my knowledge) and if he stays out of trouble for a year, the guy will have NO criminal record. He will say that he has never been convicted of a crime, etc. etc. on applications, will pass background checks, etc. If this is the case, I can't possible imagine why "God"-dell wouldn't let him back into the league.

I for one would love to see him competing for a roster spot next off season. Great depth is nothing else.

Jolly better stay the F*@# out of Houston for a year. Get in the training room at Lambeau and come back in the best shape of his career. He will definitely receive an incentive contract offer next season. I still say he's a dumbass, but big men with that kind of athleticism are not just kicked to the curb.

You know something?

I think if Jolly goes through (on a lesser scale) the Mike Vick type evangelical reformation of character, the Packers would lose a little something.

One of the reasons I like Jolly, is because he is a big ol' nasty bastard.

He should smarten up, not break any frigging laws but remain MEAN. I want to see him in a Packers uniform next year with a CHIP on his shoulder.

For the league to suspend him a year I believe he had to have 2 prior offenses if I recall correctly. This is form an article I read a while ago and it's in regard to the CBA. So accordingly, this is NOT the first offense and they do not have to disclose any prior league offenses.

Yeah apparently he must have had prior failed tests or something to have him to something like stage 3 of the NFL abuse system. Though I still don't think it justifies a year compared to running a guy over.

And I am a little upset with the Houston DA. Did this really have to be dragged out like this. Over 2 years to drop to this plea. Jolly could have served his year and been back trying to earn a new contract already.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

This should be good for him. The first step in getting his life straightened out. But now he has to prove himself all the more.
